Swim
Comments: Very pleased with the swim. Probably could have placed higher in the swim if there was not so much traffic to have to maneuver through. Never did find any real open water to really let loose. After turning at the buoy I did have a good position on the course and got into the best rhythm of the entire swim. This swim felt a lot shorter than The Rookie! I know my approach had a lot to do with that. What would you do differently?: Maybe position myself closer to the front of the wave. Didn't do that this time because I felt like it burned me in my first triathlon. Now that I am better acclimated to OWS, maybe I'll give it a shot in the next OW race. Transition 1
Comments: Probably took too much time here. I think I was having an afterglow moment following the swim...that I surprised myself by actually having a good swim and redeeming myself from my first tri swim a month ago. What would you do differently?: Move faster, not worry about grassy feet. Get the helmet, shoes and glasses on and just GO! Bike
Comments: Felt good on the bike overall. Took a little while before I got into a comfortable rhythm. At the turn I really picked it up and maintained it for the remainder of the ride. Probably could have pushed more in the early go, but it's still a PR on the avg. pace so I can't criticize too much. What would you do differently?: Push harder earlier. Transition 2
Comments: Did ok here except the bike racked next to me was overtaking some of my space and I had to walk around to get my hat before I went out...maybe cost me 5-10 seconds? It was a little annoying but I pressed on. What would you do differently?: Just become more efficient here. Did better in T2 than the last race...no mental gaffes here. Found my rack quickly and got out. Run
Comments: These 3 miles went by fast! I did not feel like I had overly exerted myself. Apparently had a lot left in the tank at the end. I had an awesome stride from about 75 yards out to the finish. My pacing strategy was the first 10 minutes to keep the HR around 160, next 10 minutes work in the 165-167 range, and the last 10+ minutes push as much as possible. I guess I could have gone harder in the last 20 minutes instead of just the last 10, but I am still pleased with the effort and the pace and know I will continue to improve. What would you do differently?: Tweak the pacing a little...maybe for a similar distance go 10 min. @ 160, 5 min @ 165-167, 15 min @ 170+. However, I did find that using the HRM was beneficial to pacing the run. Post race
Warm down: Light stretching. 2 slices of pizza, a little gatorade, lots of water. What limited your ability to perform faster: Traffic in the swim. Event comments: Well run race. Great volunteers and supporters throughout the course. Long commute from the parking area to transition though. Last updated: 2009-05-15 12:00 AM

Rise & Shine @ 3am...glass of grapefruit juice before leaving the house @ 4am.
Arrived @ 5:15, unloaded gear and ate peanut butter & banana sandwich (I think I've found "the" pre-race meal).
Walked forever to get to the transition area, set up and chilled for a bit.
Drank about 3/4 of a small gatorade, light stretching and about 100 very easy warmup in the lake.
