Swim
Comments: I felt much more comfortable in this OWS then I did in my first. I was able to breath every three strokes...for the most part. I did get pulled under a few times and dunked once, but I was able to prevent that from happening once I decided to let up a little and let the crowd get a head of me. What would you do differently?: I think I might start more towards the outside next time. I was in the back/middle and I think that is why I got involved with so much traffic. Transition 1
Comments: I need to work on transitions. I found my rack easily, but once there I dilly dallyed. I spend too much time wiping off my feet before putting on my soaks and shoes. What would you do differently?: I need to not spend so much time trying my feet and just get my soaks and shoes on and go. Bike
Comments: Bike computer was not working so I was unable to see what my speed was. This might have been a good thing because I just kept pushing and as long as my body was not telling me to slow down I kept going. The unofficial results said I averaged 20 mph. The course was smooth with small changes in elevation. I felt really good on the bike. What would you do differently?: Train more to improve mph. Transition 2
Comments: Had a better T2. Found rack fast and was able to get bike reracked and into running shoes pretty fast. What would you do differently?: Just get shoes and hat on in area and put race belt on while I am leaving the Transition. Also worry about adjusting hat and glasses once on the course. Run
Comments: I felt good at the beginning of the run. I did get a little tired about half way through, but I was able to push through. I slowed the pace a little to get some recovery and then I picked the pace back up. I felt a lot better after this run than I did after the first tri. What would you do differently?: Push the pace more on the last mile Post race
Warm down: Light stretching. I drank tons of water and a some Gatorade. Also ate 2 slices of pizza and a banana. What limited your ability to perform faster: Being dunked in the swim; lots of traffic Need to get a better gage on just how hard I can push in the run and still be able to finish. I think I could have going harder in the first half of the run. Event comments: This was a great experience all around. The race was well organized, the courses were well marked and there were great volunteers. I really enjoyed the Girl Scout troops and there energy as they cheered everyone on. Woke up at 3 AM. Got dressed and made a pot of coffee. Loaded the bikes, made sure we had water bottles. Ate a little pineapple with my coffee. Then drove an hour to Sugarland. Once in Sugarland, checked the air in the tires, walked to transtion area, and laid out my gear.
Walked from the parking to the transition area...this was a long walk. Stretched and did a short swim.
