Swim
Comments: I just started doing Tri's last year at this time. Before that I could not swim and was not able to run a 1/2 mile. With that being said, I was very happy with my swim time. From my first stroke I felt comfortable and breathing was under control. I liked the TT start, lots of room to swim. What would you do differently?: I was very happy with swim. Everything went well ! Transition 1
Comments: Long run into transition area lots of energy from the crowd, Things went as planned. Transition area was tight between athletes. I tend to bring a lot of items into transition just to be comfortable. But my times are getting fast. What would you do differently?: Would not wear biking jacket. Bike
Comments: I had problems clipping in, after that I was fine. My plan was to eat a Luna bar as soon as I got settled on bike. I had a GU every 30-40 minutes and drank 16 oz of NUUN (cola flavor). I am still experimenting with nutrition but this combo worked well, no upset stomach. What would you do differently?: Maybe try to push it more on the bike. I need more time on bike, group rides that help me get out of my comfort zone. Transition 2
Comments: T2, I felt good coming off the bike. Transition area was clutter with gear so I carried bike in. Everything went as planned. What would you do differently?: nothing Run
Comments: I came out of T2 and felt wonderful. The crowd was cheering for everyone who went by, the volunteers gave there words of encouragement, and then to see my wife cheering me on, gave me such a lift. I noticed I was going to fast, so slowed down once I got away from the crowd. I settle down into a nice pace. I had a water belt filled with more NUUN. I wanted to hydrate at my own pace and did not want to drink the sport drink that was offered. Felt great going into mile 4. I knew that I had the steep hills ahead to climb. I decided to walk the first one and get water at station this worked well, so I walked the hills, when they leveled off I started to run. With a mile to go I picked up the pace, once again the crowd was awesome for the last couple of blocks. My last mile I was running a 8:30 mile. What would you do differently?: Nothing, all my training has paid off. Post race
Warm down: Drank water and stretched. Event comments: This was my favorite event so far. The crowd support was outstanding, plenty of volunteers and well organized. The event site was great and I loved the challenging course. Last updated: 2009-05-18 12:00 AM

Woke up at 4:15 am. I had a good 6 hours sleep, which is good for pre Tri jitters . I had oatmeal and banana at 5:00 am. Drove to race, arrived at transition around 5:40 am. Set up area, walked back to Suv ate 1/2 bagel with peanut butter, and sipped on water until start of race.
I wanted to get a bike ride in plus 2-3 mile run before start of race. I decided against bike ride due to rain and wet pavement. I am not sure were the time went, but it was 6:40 when I started my run plus bathroom break I was only able to get a 1 mile run in.
