Pre-race routine:

Got up at 3:30. Ate oatmeal. Loaded the three bikes on the car. Carrie drove my car. Ate a gel before the swim.
Event warmup:

Swam 200 yards.
Swim
  • 07m 26s
  • 440 yards
  • 01m 41s / 100 yards
Comments:

I was very happy with how I felt in the swim. Much more comfortable than last time.
What would you do differently?:

I could push harder.
Transition 1
  • 03m 38s
Comments:

Didn't really try to hurry here, so I'm okay with this time.
What would you do differently?:

Get the wetsuit off more quickly.
Bike
  • 38m 21s
  • 12 miles
  • 18.77 mile/hr
Comments:

I wanted to get at least 18 mph, so I'm happy with the bike. I think the distance was a little longer than 12, according to the Garmin anyway, and thought that I had a pace of 19.7 from that. Oh well. It was still a good ride. I passed a ton of people and only a few guys who were obviously very fast bikers and didn't swim so fast passed me.
What would you do differently?:

I could still have pushed harder.
Transition 2
  • 01m 51s
Comments:

I actually paused for a moment with everything on to make sure I was all set before I left, so I'm happy with this time, even though it is slow.
What would you do differently?:

Keep moving.
Run
  • 23m 46s
  • 3 miles
  • 07m 55s  min/mile
Comments:

Good run. I kept Fred in my sights and used that to try to keep an easy, steady pace. I just kind of gradually caught up to him in the last mile, so quickened a bit to get past him. He was sweating so hard I almost slipped going by. ;-)
What would you do differently?:

Well, my plan was to take it easy on the run and I did so.
Post race
Warm down:

They ran out of water at the finish line so I only got two cups. I walked a bit (less than I like to) and stretched some. Then I ate a sandwich, a banana, a bagel with peanut butter, another banana and a pretzel and had a few cups of Gatorade.

What limited your ability to perform faster:

Nothing. I didn't go all out on the swim or run; maybe close to it on the bike, or at least close to what I thought I should with a run to come.

Event comments:

A nice sprint. I'll do it again.

According to the Garmin, the course was shorter, and I ran it more slowly: 8:30 8:28 8:20
Course: It started out on sand, in the hot sun, but then followed a narrow path in the shade before heading into a neighborhood. It was as flat a running course as I've ever run, I think. It was an out-and-back course. There was some traffic in the neighborhood to run around-- big landscaping trucks.
