Pre-race routine:

Wake up at 4:30, didn't fall asleep until almost 1am. Cinn Raisin bagel with peanut butter, and a glass of skim milk. A small luna bar before the swim. Nursed a water bottle before the race
Event warmup:

OW swim was cancelled due to a bad water test (roundworm eggs), so the replaced it with a 75 yard pool swim and a 1 mile run to transition. We stood in line for about 30-40 min. I stretched quite a bit before. My left knee was giving me greif, so I worked on that a bit. My contact tore in half in my eye, so until I could get to T1, I did the swim and first run with one contact. That was wierd.
Swim
  • 02m 10s
  • 75 yards
  • 02m 53s / 100 yards
Comments:

Only one contact, and started the swim with my goggles on my head. Rookie move.
What would you do differently?:

Put my goggles on my eyes. Bring towel to get water out of my face for the run.
Transition 1
  • 03m 3s
Comments:

I had to replace the ripped contact. That was a bit tricky because the wind was threatening to blow it off my finger.
What would you do differently?:

I was so not prepared physically for this race. I needed a few minutes to recover. Obviously train more in the 3 weeks prior.
Bike
  • 52m 34s
  • 12 miles
  • 13.70 mile/hr
Comments:

Again, not prepared, I really struggled, more than usual for that course.
What would you do differently?:

Spend more time in the saddle
Transition 2
  • 02m 28s
Run
  • 52m 1s
  • 4.35 miles
  • 11m 58s  min/mile
Comments:

I've really struggled with running for the past 3 weeks. All of my runs have been followed (and during) by bouts of repiratory problem. Not sure what the deal is, but today was no different. Even now, several hours later, I still feel some soreness in my lungs. With that being said, I took several walking breaks, and still managed to finish in under a 12 mmile, which was considerable faster than I felt.
Post race
Warm down:

Walking, chocolate milk, water and a banana. Then some yummy mexican food with some fellow sharks.

Event comments:

This race went as well as can be expected with the last minute swim change. I wasn't too jazzed about the added run, but I think it mirrored what my time would've been with an ow swim.
