Swim
Comments: Mixed "emotions" followed me from start to finish on this race, and it started with the swim. I felt really good with the swim with my stroke and body position, but I still don't feel like I'm pushing myself fast enough, and I'm not so great with POWER. Hmmm. I need a week in the pool with a real SWIM NUT to perfect my little problems. My spotting was lacking today as well. I'm sure I looked like a drunken fool from a birds eye view with my "S" turns....overall...I didn't suck...but I wasn't impressive either. What would you do differently?: Invent a time machine, go back 30 years and take loads of swim lessons. Transition 1
Comments: Ya know, I did good here....really. Except for a little trouble with the wet suit, I couldn't have been much faster. In fact, I'm giving myself KUDOS here, since I haven't practiced this in a long time and it went as smooth as it did. What would you do differently?: Practice Bike
Comments: Again. Did I push hard enough? I was rarely passed, and I did a large amount of passing. I felt like I was pushing it, but question whether I had just a bit more in me...but then would the run have suffered. The eternal question I suppose. I got up to 26 on some flats, but I'm sure the wind was at my back...19/20 into the wind...and probably 21/22 with crosswinds...so that seemed pretty good. What would you do differently?: Ya know...maybe I should have put my rear tire covers on and my aero helmet...but otherwise...not much. Transition 2
Comments: Again, went about as fast as I can. Felt smooth. What would you do differently?: Nuttin. Run
Comments: The first 50 feet out of transition, a guy in my age group passed me, and he stayed 20 feet in front of me the rest of the run. He was the only person to pass me, and we passed a boat load of people otherwise. He knew I was there the whole time and at mile 4 told me to come up to join him....but I was at my limit. I got right on his heals a few times, but he'd pull away and I'd just hold on. He probably kept me from dogging it at some points, but at the end, he found his next gear, and I didn't have one today. Maybe I could have pushed it a bit harder, but the only guy that I was competing against would probably still have beaten me. Ugh! What would you do differently?: Good run....nuttin. Post race
Warm down: Grabbed a water at end of shoot, found family and walked around. Got some more snacks, confirmed I didn't get an award and make our way to the car to change. What limited your ability to perform faster: More speed training on the bike...more bricks. Overall, it's easy to see where I need work according to my placements overall. Swim...kinda sucky. Bike...good, but not great, Run....my GO TO strength. Event comments: Good race to do. Not bad. Not awesome...but good. Needed more people at the water stops. Needed more people at the "check in" area. But none of these things made a difference in how I performed. YOU ASKED for a comment, and there it is. Last updated: 2009-05-26 12:00 AM

Arrived with my family from the 1 hour 45 minute drive. The line to pick up my stuff was about 35 minutes long, so it was good we arrived 1 hour early. Took my bike to the already full rack and wedged her in, then found a nice "transition" spot on the opposite side of the race, which was just peachy. Set out my stuff in my anal and methodical way, then did a few "test" runs to make sure it was all in the "right" spot. It was. Walked down to the beach, via a peanut butter sandwich, to meet Mary, Erin and Conor.
Mary zipped me in to my wet suit, and I went for a very short swim...just to make sure everything worked and to get a bit of H2O in the suit....all systems GO.
