Swim
Comments: Water was freezing. Chose August tri cause the lake is warm. Of course then we have the coldest summer in years. Cold water took breath away and could not get it back. Goggles fogged. What would you do differently?: Definately need to get the wetsuit if I am going to continue doing this. Transition 1
Comments: Transition was easy. I read so many stories of losing bike in the "giant" lot but went real smooth. In set-up I counted racks from swim in and bike in. Used bright yellow towel on ground to find spot in rack. My feet felt numb (from cold) the entire run up from beach and into transition. What would you do differently?: Nothing. Could have ran a little faseter into and out of, but overall was very smooth. Bike
Comments: Rode my 20 year old mountain bike with road slicks and averaged 15 mph. Not Bad. Was fun passing the expensive bikes and racers from earlier waves on my tank of a bike. Start out of transition was good, pace was stron, numb feet for about a mile or so. Then I took off. Third loop the wind gusts picked up (headwind) but it was a good leg. What would you do differently?: Gear. Gear. Gear. If I am going to continue to do this I need to get a road bike. In my opinion I had a great swim and slowed down do to my lap time on bike. Transition 2
Comments: Biked in my running shoes as the 20 year old tank of a bike just has clips. Again rehersing the transition before race began made finging rack a breeze. What would you do differently?: Nothing. Run
Comments: Overall good. Further I went the better my legs were. Sun came out on the return leg and my legs started to feel great (got faster as the race went on). So needed it to be a longer run as it got better as we went along. What would you do differently?: Need to run out of tansition (legs ribbery), might help get my legs back faster. Post race
Warm down: Couple of glasses of water, and a peach. Photos with the family celebrating the competion of my FIRST TRIATHLON!!! Lunch with family, then a nap to make up for the sleep I didn't get as I was up with nerves the night before. What limited your ability to perform faster: Cold water. Took my breath away. Never got a good rhythm on swim and numb feet hurt transition to bike. Event comments: Loved the race. Very organized and was great for the first one. Small course and very organized made this seem very easy. Was a lot of fun and I wish that it was early in the season and I had time for a few more this year. Last updated: 2009-05-26 12:00 AM

Stayed at event hotel as drive from home would require losing another hour of sleep. Woke at 5am and had pbj sandwich, bannana, and water.
Rode the mile or so from parking lot at Montrose Ave. to the transition area at Foster Ave. Beach. Set-up transition and chatted with wife till it was time for race talk and wave line-up.
