Swim
Comments: Great swim for me. I'm just slow but I don't care. I enjoyed the swim and actually did one of those backstroke turns around one of the buoys, mostly for the ladies. Kind of for me, a little, but mostly for the ladies. What would you do differently?: Prolly just swim faster. Or attach some sort of outboard product to my undercarriage. That'd make me faster I bet. Transition 1
Comments: I suck at transitions. I'm not quite sure what happened but at first I couldn't find my rack, then I couldn't get my wetsuit off, then I couldn't get my socks on because we had to run through dirt and I had to wash off my feet so they were still kinda wet, then my bike shoes weren't ready to go so I had a hard time trying to get them on, then I nearly forgot to clip my helmet. It was a hot mess. A HOT FRICKIN' MESS! What would you do differently?: Um, NOT all the stuff I just wrote about. Bike
Comments: This was four loops, which suck, because you're constantly doing these crazy hairpin turn. Three on each loop, to be exact, with each leading to a climb. Nice. Still, I could've pushed a bit harder on the ups instead of riding at a comfortable pace. It was crowded which led to two things, incessant yet unintentional drafting, and lots and lots and lots of sweet sweet pace booty to pull me along. I swear one chick's bikini (yes, bikini) bottoms were kind of old. I could almost see whether the carpet matched the curtains, if only she would've stood up. But I digress. It was very crowded out there. What would you do differently?: I should've pushed harder on the uphills. I feel like I totally slacked on the bike. A faster bike split would probably have been better, you know, for my overall time and ranking and such. Transition 2
Comments: Well this transition was FAST! Until I was on my way out and decided to take a nature stop at a portalet. I must've peed my weight in water and Gatorade. I swear it was like someone shoved a hose up my butt and turned it on. It just wouldn't stop coming. I didn't even know my bladder could hold that amount of liquid. AND I didn't know I had to go that bad. All I could think was `sweet sweet relief' as, I think, I caused Town Lake to overflow. Anyway, I lost at least two minutes there but it was SOOO worth it. What would you do differently?: Pee on the bike. Or in the water. Or somewhere else. Run
Comments: Well the run was nice. I felt good coming out of T2 because I THOUGHT I was on a PR pace. So I wanted to kill the run. I did the first two miles at about a 7:15 pace but decided to dial it back a notch because of the heat -- it was approaching prolly 95-96 degrees by this time. So I decided to just cruise on in. Which really was a bad idea. The only type of pain or interruption I had was when my quads wobbled a little, threatening to cramp up. A couple Endurolytes later and I was fine! So my goal was a 45 flat. Not even frickin' close because I didn't push it. I should've. I'm going to start really killing myself on the run, especially on these shorter courses. I cost myself a good four minutes here because I didn't HTFU. I could easily have stayed on that 7:15-7:30 pace had I just not wussed out. What would you do differently?: Run faster! Post race
Warm down: Walked around transition. Grabbed a bottle of water and a bottle of Gatorade and a slice of pizza. Stared at some Texas megahotties and then waited for the rest of the team. What limited your ability to perform faster: My lack of HTFU. Event comments: Well a good race indeed, but I could've done better. I was fairly pleased with my time considering the heat but you know if you don't have pain the day after a race then you didn't try hard enough. I got a massage yesterday when I got back to Chicago, but it was totally unnecessary. Time to put on the big boy shorts and actually try to tri. Haha try to tri. I know I could've PRd this race if I would've put forth more effort on the bike and run, and not spent 10 minutes in transitions. Overall a fun race. Lotsa hot pace booty and lotsa hot weather and a good course. Oh yeah! I apparently, because of a goofy finisher's photo, am the poster child for the Capital of Texas Triathlon. You know where you go to look up your photos? Yeah ... they used my finisher's photo on that front page. As my friend Pete said `I always wondered what happened to Corky after they canceled `Life Goes On,' now I know.' http://www.asiorders.com/view_event.asp?EVENTID=46372 Last updated: 2009-05-27 12:00 AM
