Swim
Comments: Since I'm a swimmer, this was an easy thing. I hung out with the top thrashing pack for about 3-400 meters. It was nice to drag behind them, but I saw that it would have taken to much energy to keep up on that pace, so I did the smart thing and dropped and settled into my own pace. Hello, I still have a half day of racing left, can't waste it all now. The swim start was also in direct view of the sun, so it was impossible to see the orange buoys. Just kind of followed everyone. It was also nice to see the caps of colors change as I was catching up to the previous wave...Oh well, I just enjoyed the advantage now as it won't last. What would you do differently?: wear shaded goggles? Transition 1
Comments: I remembered the tip from some tri girl to wear the cap and goggles and keep moving as you are getting out of the water...the whole run from swim to bike is a ways and there would be plenty of time to get the suit off. I before would stop, take of my cap and goggles then panick because it was difficult to get my suit untied while holding cap and goggles in one hand. What would you do differently?: still have to learn how to have the bike shoes clipped in but there is time... Bike
Comments: I was proud of my biking...I couldn't believe I went over 19mph for 56 miles and was not pushing to hard. On the hills, I would spin in an easy gear and let everyone pass me, as I didn't want to blow up. On the downhills and flats I would push while still holding 85+ cadence. At mile 50 got stung by a damn bee. Oh damn it hurt so bad. I was like this is a good excuse to quit. All I felt was serious sting pain on my chest and forgot about pain in my legs and crotch. I had 4 gels once every 30-40 min and not right out the water till my heart rate settled. Stayed well hydrated...Drank 4 24 oz water bottles on the bike. What would you do differently?: bike went well Transition 2
What would you do differently?: I still need to learn to that fancy bike transition...I'd prolly fall if I tried that Run
Comments: Run was pretty much a reflection of my training...You can show up and pull a 5k and 10k out of the azz, but not a 1/2 marathon...With only running every few weeks 2 times a week for about an hour, I found out quickly what my limit was...well 6.5 miles exactly one loop! At one loop my total time was 4:48. As soon as I started the first slight uphil on the second loop, my legs just said hello pain. That was the end of my running and slow slow 2 hour walk around the hot reservoir. That really sucked. What would you do differently?: Pretty much have to become a runner as it is my weakest link. I don't even wanna think about attempting 1/2 IM until completing a marathon. I just started running this year, so I should be happy that I can run 6.5 miles. Post race
Warm down: Considering that I walked 2 hours the last run loop, you can count that as pretty good warm down.... I got a 1 hour massage afterwards. That was deep tissue and hurt like hell, but I can walk today, just feeling tired. What limited your ability to perform faster: lack of running training Event comments: 5430 guys put on an awesome race. I felt that safety and care for athletes was their top concern! I hope other race organizers learn from them. It was truly proffesional! Last updated: 2005-08-08 12:00 AM

This is my first triathlon season. I'm primarily a swimmer and have only started biking and running this year. Before this I did 2 sprints and an olympic with my longest run ever of 10 miles hehe....It was pretty insane to enter this actually because of my lack of running ability which showed.
So woke up at 4am. The usual, pb&j, chamois butter lol, make sure everything was packed...Went out and got there at 4:55am. It was still dark and the generator wasn't working, but that's ok cause I didn't really want anyone to notice how much of a rookie I am while preparing.
I did an easy 10 min bike around the transition area...I was scared to waste any energy and was even afraid to even breathe as it would hurt me later hehe. Actually, biking felt ok.
