Swim
Comments: My weakness. And can you believe I grew up on a lake as a kid? My breathing was too intense and was thrown off-focus by the chaos, and I went to the backstroke a quarter of the way into the swim. I came out of the water light-headed, dizzy, and lacking energy. Needed to pull myself together. What would you do differently?: Practice, Practice, Practice. Especially in open water. I knew before the race that I needed to work on swimming more, but I only started training 3 weeks before when I decided to sign up. I will be practicing my swimming endurance a lot more and controlling my breathing rhythm. Transition 1
Comments: The poor transition time was directly related to my recovering from the swim. I put on a long sleeve shirt, which I knew would be difficult and time consuming, but I didn't want to freeze on the bike ride. What would you do differently?: Work on swimming. Could always get single strap bike shoes instead of triple, but that's more money. Bike
Comments: Took me awhile to pull it together after the swim and transition 1, toes were numb from swimming. 5-10min in, I was back to normal. I was able to stay in Zone 4 most of the time, touched Zone 5 on two or 3 of the hills, but barely. Still need to better calculate my Max HR to better determine my zones. What would you do differently?: Train more on hills, and work on speed. Do more bricks. Overall, it wasn't too bad. Transition 2
Comments: No complaints. What would you do differently?: Could save time by drinking a bit more while moving in transition versus when I am about to leave. Also, I could ride with my feet on top of shoes before the dismount (as long as it isn't wet like it was). Run
Comments: Very pleased with my pace considering how the race started. What would you do differently?: Train more, like everything else. :) I was pleased with the run, but know I can push myself harder. Start training more on longer runs, and faster runs. All in good time though. Post race
Warm down: Walked around for a bit, cheered friends that were coming in to the finish. What limited your ability to perform faster: My biggest weakness is the swim. First of all, I need to practice a lot more to control my breathing. Secondly, I need to practice more in open water and with an intense start. For the race, I went out too hard, and need to be comfortable with the chaos that ensues in the beginning, in order to control my breathing and rhythm better. Once I get better at the swimming, this will greatly reduce my transition 1 time as well as give me more focus in the beginning of my bike. Event comments: First Tri, so it is impossible to compare. Overall, I thought it was very well organized considering the number of participants. The volunteers did an amazing job! I thought it was a lot of fun for a first race. It was nice to look at the results and identify areas where I know I can easily cut off time. Last updated: 2009-06-01 12:00 AM

First Triathlon, so can't really say I have a "routine" yet. :)
Walked around in place, jogged to the bathroom one last time. That's about it. Other than trying to stay warm!
