Total Time = 2h 41m 47s
Overall Rank = /
Age Group = 35-39
Age Group Rank = 28/40
Pre-race routine:

Woke up ate a small bowl of cereal, sipped on some G'ade, and rode to the event with an old friend and her husband.
Event warmup:

10-12 minute run, 10 minute bike, 2 minute swim.
Swim
  • 36m 39s
  • 1640 yards
  • 02m 14s / 100 yards
Comments:

I never struggled in the swim. I just swam slow. This would actually be the theme of my entire day. I wish I could say "I got off course"or "I got beat around in the beginning and got nervous". However, none of that happened. It is what it is. I was slow.
Transition 1
  • 00m 54s
Comments:

You know your race wasn't all that good when the only bright part of your day was the transition time.
Bike
  • 1h 09m 54s
  • 24 miles
  • 20.60 mile/hr
Comments:

I have never been passed by so many people on the bike leg of a race. The course had rolling hills, but the hills really didn't affect me. I just didn't feel like I had any go juice. People would go by me and I had no answer for them. Once again I would like to use the excuse, "The wind was brutal!" or "The hills were killer!" As in the swim, it is what it is...I was slow.
Transition 2
  • 00m 58s
Comments:

Another decent transition time.
Run
  • 53m 24s
  • 6.21 miles
  • 08m 36s  min/mile
Comments:

I can run faster than this. I run bricks faster than this. I kept consistent with the theme of the day...slow.
Post race
Warm down:

Drank a coke and some G'ade. Ate a couple of cookies with my kids.

What limited your ability to perform faster:

It was hot, but I'm not using heat as an excuse. I took in 1.5 bottles of fluid on the bike, so I feel like I was well hydrated. I took in one Energy Gel at the half way point of the bike. Maybe I needed more calories, but that was not using that as a limiting factor.

Event comments:

I've put in some decent training volume over the last several months. I was really hoping to have a stellar year but out of the first three races I've been diappointed in 2 of the 3 race times. I might be expecting too much out of myself. The extra training doesn't seem to be making much of a differnce in my race performance. I think I will be taking some time off to re-evaluate my training plan and focus.
