Swim
What would you do differently?: Swim faster I guess. I think I did have a couple of less than perfect flip turns when my foot slipped on the wet plate at far end of the pool. (timer plate? In the middle of the lane) Find out where transition starts so at least my times are more accurate Transition 1
What would you do differently?: Only thing that slowed me down was trying to get my watch to pair with the bike which was hard to do while I was pushing the bike out of the transition. Should have stopped for the 2 seconds to do that. Again know where the transition is so my times are more accurate. Bike
Comments: Had a hard time getting going for the first 3 miles or so. Cold and wet and miserable. Than I found my stride and started cranking out a little faster and was seeing some 20 mph on the flat sections. Things were going good until my chain slipped off as I was cresting the final hill and getting ready to start the last descent to the end. I managed to stay on my bike and coast for a bit and after a minute or two (seemed like forever since I couldn't build up speed on the downhill) I managed to get the chain bake on with the heel of my foot and I didn't have to dismount. So I lost some time and speed but it probably wouldn't have made more than a place or two difference. Distance felt good and I will just keep working to go faster. What would you do differently?: I think I need to take the bike in for an overhaul or if I continue with tri's maybe a real bike instead of my EB riding 7 speed :) Transition 2
Run
Comments: I am actually the most proud of my run. Short of using a treadmill that is the longest I have run my entire life (I played lots of sports but those were run, jog, slow down and than run some more.) I RAN the entire way and didn't walk any portion of the course. What would you do differently?: I will just keep training and try to get better running. Weather was cool so water was not such a big deal but I tried to take a drink at the first water station and managed to aspirate half the glass. I need to learn to drink and gasp at the same time :) Post race
What limited your ability to perform faster: Fat and out of shape. :) Event comments: My first tri!!!! I did it. What more can I say ! Last updated: 2009-06-03 12:00 AM

Got up at 4 am to start the drive from Lincoln to Norfolk. Got really irritated around Columbus when we had to take a detour and the official state detour wound up being over an extra 45 miles. Went from want would have been a early arrival to showing up just before the scheduled time of the mandatory pre-race meeting. Having not been to a Tri before I was afraid my day was going to be over before I showed up but when I arrived there was a line out the door to sign in so it worked out ok in the end.
Stretching and some warmup in the pool.
