Swim
Comments: First time swimming in a full wetsuit. I was worried about any lack of mobility in my arms but it wasn't too bad. It rubbed a little in my left armpit so I just need to bodyglide that up for next time. It's nice now to have the option of using the sleeveless or the full wetsuit. They started us out two at a time 5 seconds apart. I really really liked that. I never had anyone kick me or catch any elbows. It really spaced us out nicely. I started to feel a little constricted by the end but I think that's just from not being used to the full wetsuit. What would you do differently?: Just need more swims in the full wetsuit. Transition 1
Comments: The reason this was so long was because there was about a quarter mile run to transition after the swim. Jeeeez. Really I felt pretty good about this transition. Everything went fine. Having the tri shirt underneath the wetsuit saves a ton of time since I don't have to put on a seperate shirt. Bike
Comments: Being from Chicago the hills killed me. There were hills galore and one particular hill around mile 12 was almost unfair. The only way I was able to get my butt up that thing was to come of the saddle. I also didn't read the website carefully enough. Being that this is an Olympic distance I assumed the bike would be 25 miles but nooooooo it just kept going and going. So finally at mile 28 we finished. Whew! What would you do differently?: Know exactly what the mileage is before I start. Of course, a little more work on hills would be great. All in all I'm ok with my time. The fact that I was able to avg over 20mph makes me happy. Transition 2
Comments: Went ok. Having the Yankz on my shoes helped. Tying my shoes last triathlon took a bunch of time. Had to take a gu break though. Run
Comments: Awful for me. The hills killed me. The last tri I did I averaged 7:50 minute miles and all of a sudden I'm at 9 and a half minute miles???? Unbelievable. Really sapped some of my confidence. BUT after seeing a lot of other peoples times, it seems a lot of people were in the same boat. What would you do differently?: More hill work. Post race
Warm down: Sat in the grass for a bit. What limited your ability to perform faster: Hills. The run killed me. Event comments: Race was very well run and organized. We were a little late getting started but that wasn't a huge deal. The distance from swim to transition and also from T2 to the run were very very long. A good race but the only way I'd be back was if I was doing specific hill training. Last updated: 2009-06-04 12:00 AM

Toast with PB&J. Coffee to help nature take it's course. Got to race site in plenty of time. Set up transition and put on our full wetsuits that we just bought the night before.
Did some swimming warmup in the lake. It was warmer than I expected which was a nice suprise.
