Swim
Comments: There were a lot of people in my wave. The bouys were hard to sight. I kept hitting the people around me. My swim was a lot better than Irongirl. I felt very relaxed in the water. However whenever I would get a nice rythm I would swim into someone. What would you do differently?: I need to work on my swimming more. I think it will get better as a swim more and more. Transition 1
Comments: This is my first race with bike shoes and I was pleased that it went well. My rack was very far from where we came in from the swim. What would you do differently?: Take in some water and nutrition. Bike
Comments: Around mile 6 there was a 90 degree turn while going uphill. My gears jammed and I could not move my pedals front or back. I was able to unclip prior to falling so I did not get hurt there. I unjammed my gears but forgot to switch it to an easier gear. I tried to get back on and could not. A wonderful volunteer helped me get in the right gear. Then I decided to walk the bike up the hill. (Alot of people were doing this) At the top of the hill I attempted to get on the bike. My legs gave out on me and I ended up falling off my bike this time. My knee was bleeding and I felt wiped out. I started getting dizzy and decided to sit for a couple of minutes. Another volunteer saw me and rode his bike over to me. He offered me some gatorade and I gladly accepted it. It was very concentrated. After a few minutes I felt like a new person and was able to continue on the bike. On the uphills I averaged between 7-8 miles per hour and on the downhills I averaged 23-26 mph. The only hill I walked my bike was where I fell. What would you do differently?: I need to take in gatorade on the bike to make sure I am getting enough nutrients. Transition 2
Run
Comments: I had a great run. I love trail runs. There was overcast and a nice breeze. TheĀ hills were not too bad except the last one. I walked about 2 minutes but ran the rest of the way What would you do differently?: More bricks. Post race
Warm down: I crossed the finish line all smiles. It was a great race. I went immediately to the medical tent to get my leg cleaned up. The medical guys were awesome. What limited your ability to perform faster: I need to get better on the bike. I need to ride outdoors more and find some hills to practice on. Event comments: Volunteers were awesome. I would not have been able to finish the race without them. I loved the course but I think that the race was very crowded. Last updated: 2009-06-09 12:00 AM

Transition bag was packed the night before and by the door. I woke up at 4:30am. Got ready and left hotel about 5:15am. Arrived at the parking area about 5:45am. There was a long line for the shuttle. My sister and I decided to walk to the race site. It was a nice walk. I ate a nutrigrain bar. Next race definitely need better nutrition before the race. I drank bottle of water. After arriving at the race site we got body marked and then went and set up transition area and applied sunscreen. Then went to swim start to wait for our wave.
I didn't really warmup. I stretched a little but not much.
