Event warmup:

Took the long walk down to transition area from the car. I didn't get a chance to do the swim warm up though I definitely should have.
Swim
  • 12m 4s
  • 500 yards
  • 02m 25s / 100 yards
Comments:

The swim was my worst leg of the race which is a little disappointing. Normally this is one of my strengths but it didn't work out well today. I started off too fast and ended up out of breath very early. As a result I was too tired to navigate well and ended up swimming more than a bit out of my way several times.
What would you do differently?:

Start slower and a bit farther back. Keep my own pace and don't let everyone else push me.
Transition 1
  • 01m 24s
Comments:

Overall the transition was faster than my goal. I had a little trouble getting my first foot locked into the pedal. I ended up starting out with neither pedal clicked in and just dealing with it once I was up to speed.
What would you do differently?:

Trying the shoes on bike trick might be worth practicing but for now I'm just going to deal with it.
Bike
  • 30m 12s
  • 10 miles
  • 19.87 mile/hr
Comments:

Overall the bike was very good. The beginning hills were a little rough because I was still out of breath from the tough swim. Once I settled in it went well and my cadence was right where I wanted it.
What would you do differently?:

There wasn't much I would do differently other than come out of the water with a lower heart rate.
Transition 2
  • 00m 57s
Comments:

Pretty fast transition. The only thing that took a couple extra seconds was getting out of the cycling shoes and wiping my feet off before putting on running shoes.
Run
  • 25m 32s
  • 3.11 miles
  • 08m 13s  min/mile
Comments:

The run was tough but decent. I definitely need to start running longer so that a 5k doesn't seem quite so far.
Post race
Warm down:

Walked around, grabbed some food, and chatted with family and friends.

What limited your ability to perform faster:

For the swim the greatest limiter was good pacing and the adrenaline rush of a race start. For the bike and run, fitness was the only real limiter and I was happy with the speed of both.

Event comments:

It was a good race overall and the turnout was great. There was definitely room for improvement in traffic flow, both of racers and of spectators. Unfortunately I think they are constrained by the amount of room they have at the race location.
