Endurance Developement Series
Sunny
Total Time = 1h 04m 13s
Overall Rank = 85/350
Age Group = 35-39
Age Group Rank = 18/32
Pre-race routine:

Bowl of Grape Nuts w/raisins & Light Vanilla Soy and coffee at 5 am. 50/50 water Gatorade Mixture and 1/3 Vanilla Crisp PowerBar just before race.
Event warmup:

Stretched and ran a few laps around parking lot.
Swim
  • 04m 31s
  • 250 yards
  • 01m 49s / 100 yards
Comments:

This was a pool swim and not a big race so I didn't go hard. Despite having a 20-second gap between me and the guy before me, I caught up and he told me to go ahead at the wall. The next few people did the same. On the last lap the guy saw me coming but didn't budge so I just sidestroked behind him until the end.
What would you do differently?:

Try not to do any pool swims.
Transition 1
  • 00m
Comments:

Second race I've done this year with no transition times. The mats were there I ran across them. Where are my transition times?
Bike
  • 31m 29s
  • 9 miles
  • 17.15 mile/hr
Comments:

Couldn't shift into the big ring for the first 2-3 miles for some reason. Once I got in, I stayed there and mashed my way over the hills afraid I wouldn't get back if I dropped into the middle ring. Lost my mesh stopper on drinking system when I hit the joint of a bridge. Saw someone else's there too. Third time that has happened despite the way the guy at Inside Out told me to put it in the bottle.
What would you do differently?:

Make sure my bike is shifting properly and just be smarter about the races I choose to run as the promoters were definitely not thinking about safety when they set this race up.
Transition 2
  • 00m
Run
  • 28m 14s
  • 3.11 miles
  • 09m 05s  min/mile
Comments:

My legs were so tight from mashing in the big ring I didn't loosen up until the turnaround. Then I felt awesome. Someone told me I was smokin' on the way back. can't imagine how with a 28:14, but then that probably has T2 in it not to mention my slow first half of the run. Maybe I was smokin' for me at least!
What would you do differently?:

Make sure my bike is shifting properly.
Post race
What limited your ability to perform faster:

Not checking my bike out before the race.

Event comments:

Set-Up always does a good job with volunteers and aid stations and post race food and in general everything is well organized on race day. But the run course wasn't the greatest. Had a great time though and met Cletuspapa and his family.

Course: Strange. Paved trail, turned into wood chip trail which was actually very firm, then a dirt trail so narrow I had to run through weeds when people came back the other way, then over foot bridges, then over landscaping stones (yes, landscaping stones, and wobbly at that!) then into a neighborhood, then through someone's living room, (ha! just kidding, but I wouldn't have been surprised) then back again.
