Comments: Very intersting for my first OWS race. Started in the 2nd wave, at the front. From the start, stayed side by side with 2 other people, but we broke away from the wave immediately. Sighting the first bouy was a nightmare, as we were staring straight into the sun. I basically just hoped the person next to me saw it well, because I was having trouble. Made it around the bouy (150m or so out) pretty easy, which is when I broke away. the next 200m or so was a straight shot, keeping bouys on your right. Had to weave through the BOP from the first wave, which was intersting. Also started to tire a little bit more than I wanted, felt like the stroke broke down. First out of the water, so I can't complain. What would you do differently?: Practice sighting a little bit more... Transition 1
Comments: Put shoes on at T1, as opposed to leave them on bike. Sockless for first time, didn't pose a problem. Towel at T1 was helpful in getting gravel off my feet. Definitely slower than the FOPers, but not slow compared to the whole field. What would you do differently?: Need to work on more of a smooth mount on the bike. Other than that, getting everything on (helmet, sunglassees, race belt) was pretty smooth. Bike
Comments: Solid ride, at least for me. Didn't have my HR monitor on, so I don't know where I was at in that respect. I still don't like doing U-turns, but everything else I thought was solid. Was out by myself for the most part, as I had passed a lot of people in the water. Took a few sips from the bottle just to wet my mouth/throat. For me, a good average. But still my weakest link against the field. Can't wait for my new bike and race wheels... Transition 2
Comments: Not too much trouble getting feet out of and on top of shoes. Still not the smoothest thing for me, but getting the hang of it. Being in a big gear is crucial to run with the bike with shoes on (learned that at Cleburne, one shoe got dragged and ripped off). Run
Comments: Rough run. Calves cramping up immediately off the bike, took some slowing down and 1/2 mile to keep them in check. Had a hard time controlling my breathing and pushing through the pain. Not nearly as fast as I would have liked...wish I knew why I was cramping. May have been hydration and humidity? What would you do differently?: More bricks? Post race
Warm down: 10 minute jog. What limited your ability to perform faster: Training schedule has been more sporadic than I would like. Should be better soon... Event comments: Good first OWS race. Last updated: 2009-06-15 12:00 AM

The usual. Got up about 2 hours early (only 20-25 min drive to the race site). Usual light breakfast, headed to the race.
Jogged around for a few minutes, and stepped into the lake and splashed a bit, tried to get used to sighting, since I've never done it before.
