Swim
Comments: Started almost in the back of the field, with many many slower swimmers in front of me. So, I had to do a bit of weaving around and crawling over other people. Didn't really get into a great rhythm, but felt good. What would you do differently?: When registering, would put a slightly better time than I expect so that I could push myself and have open water. Really need to work on sighting! Transition 1
Comments: Really need to practice transitions... Felt like socks and shoes went on well. What would you do differently?: Again, race number pins fell off jersey, need to get race belt. Also helmet buckel took a while to put on, wasted a few seconds or more. Bike
Comments: Overall, felt the bike was pretty good. I didn't go too hard as I wanted to save some for the run, so that my legs wouldn't cramp up again. I could actually get in the aero position on my bike without aerobars, but definitely need to change seat height for that. Tried to stay aero as much as possible. Had a gel at ~3/4 mark of course, which I felt was the perfect time. What would you do differently?: Train for the run after biking, refit my bike for triathlons, use the lube stuff for my legs, drink more water. Transition 2
Comments: Better about starting to un-velcro straps earlier, got one foot out. Other foot unclipped while doing it, so I lost a shoe for a little while which cost me some time. I did a good job of getting my running shoes on quickly. What would you do differently?: Again, really need to practice transitions. Especially the unbuckling of shoes and riding on top of shoes. Run
Comments: Started off slow with short stride... trying to avoid calf cramps. After about the first 1/2 mile, I started to pick up the pace to my normal running pace. Felt great during the run, and by the last mile was really pushing it. I was amazed at how well I did, despite very little running these past few weeks. What would you do differently?: Train for the run after a long bike. Post race
Warm down: Pizza, cookies, ice-cream sandwiches! :) What limited your ability to perform faster: Extremely soar from earlier in the week training. Would have prepared for the race a little better, with a taper at the end of the week. During the swim and bike, I held myself back a little so that I didn't hit the wall before the run, which I was worried about. Event comments: Most organized race we've been to so far. We real liked the atmosphere of the post-race, especially with the jumbalaya and music! Last updated: 2005-08-16 12:00 AM

Woke up around 4:45, got everything together. Drank a CJY famous smoothie and was off for a 2 hr drive to Scottsboro.
Almost no warmup at all, basically tried to stretch my legs as much as possible.
