Swim
Comments: I was in the last wave and while standing on shore watching the others you could feel the wind start to pick up and the chop get heavier. I kept wanting to get going before it got worse. Going out to the first buoy wasn't bad at about 150 yds. but after rounding the buoy the chop got pretty rough and it was tough to keep from swallowing water. Felt like I sited pretty well for me and tried to stay close to the crowd. What would you do differently?: It always helps to get a warm up first for me especially the swim. I would also push harder in the mid portion of the swim section. Transition 1
Comments: It had been awhile since I used the running leap to get on the bike so I decided to just put my bike shoes on and then just run out with them on and get going. I took me an extra several seconds to put my shoes on since my feet were wet and I forgot my bodyglide to grease up the shoes. Otherwise T1 was fine. What would you do differently?: Remember BG and go out with shoes on the bike. Practice this first. Bike
Comments: I wanted to push pretty hard on the bike and kind of use this as a time trial ride. I had ridden pretty hard for 50 miles the day before so legs were a little tired. Strong crosswinds moved me a couple of times and at 195lbs. that is usually some strong winds. Passed alot of folks and got passed by one myself. It was good to see all the first timers out there pushing hard. What would you do differently?: Would have been good to drink a little more, I essentially had one swallow of gatorade for the whole ride since I was afraid to take my hands of the bars due to the wind. Transition 2
Comments: I had to run to the last rack so slowed me a little running with the bike quite a way. What would you do differently?: Maybe register earlier so I get a better rack position. Run
Comments: Again legs were a little tired due to yesterdays brick but since it was this short no real problems. What would you do differently?: Nothing. Post race
Warm down: Walked for a few minutes and checked to see how my son-in-law did. Had some gatorade and some cookies. What limited your ability to perform faster: Yesterdays brick of 50 bike and 6 mile run tired my legs some but this was just a quick race for fun. Event comments: This was a good race for newbies to do since it is short and Jack always runs a tight race. It was fun to see all the kids out there. Also a good race for us vets as a change of pace since IM and long course training can get kind of boring without some sort of break. Fun day, quick in and out race with the rest of the day to do what you want other than train/race. Last updated: 2009-06-17 12:00 AM

Got up about 5:30 and had a banana with peanut butter and some gatorade then piled into the car and headed out the door with my son-in-law for the 45 min. drive from Ft. Worth.
By the time we got to transition there was just enough time to get set up and go down to hear Jack's speech and hear the Star Spangled Banner.
