Swim
Comments: Only had two swim practices before entering the race, so the performance was good considering. Starting in the second wave kind of stunk due to fighting through the slower first wave swimmers. Got kicked in the head/shoulder around the last buoy. Wore blue colored goggles and should have had amber or clear due to the dark, rainy conditions. Transition 1
Comments: This transition included a lengthy run through the woods uphill. Due to the rain, this was an accident waiting to happen. I brought my gore tex trail running shoes so it made the run better. My time was good compared to most others. What would you do differently?: Not do the event due to this hill Bike
Comments: Felt like I had no legs on the bike. The hills felt aweful. Time and pace ended up ok, but I just felt sapped of energy the whole time. Riding in the rain wasn't much fun either. What would you do differently?: Nothing. Transition 2
Comments: For some reason, the race organizers decided to have the bike course entrance have a sharp angle into the transition area. I misjudged the entrance speed and almost went riding into a mud pit from all of the rain we had during the swim / first bike lap. What would you do differently?: Check out the bike route entrance before the start of the race. Run
Comments: Run went as well as expected. Had a plan going in of running for 8 minutes and walking for 2 minutes. Repeat that until the race is finished. The plan was good. The hills made me walk a little more. Considering I walked probably about 8-10 minutes, I felt the run was good. What would you do differently?: Nothing Post race
Warm down: Walked around, stretched, drank some fluids... Chatted with a friend who I hadn't seen in years who did the race with me. What limited your ability to perform faster: Having a knee and shoulder injury in January limiting any training until Apr 1st. Event comments: The rain really put a damper on things. It made the run from the swim to the bike transition area very dangerous. Race was great for my second triathlon and my first olympic distance event. Last updated: 2009-06-18 12:00 AM

Woke up, ate a bagel w/cream cheese, made banana protein shake, drank Powerade and water on the 1:15 ride to the site.
Nothing special. Walked around some, walked down to the swim area
