Swim
Comments: I was seeded 15th and I was concerned about my seed time being too agressive. As it turned out, I was concerned over nothing as I ended up catching and passing 3 or 4 people that started ahead of me. Since I come from a competitive swimming background this was the easiest leg for me. What would you do differently?: My swim was ok. I was suprised to catch some of the people who were seeded ahead of me. Transition 1
Comments: The bikes were racked by number and all of the lowest seed numbers were at the farthest point from the bike exit and from the swim entrance to transition. I felt pretty comfortable with how I executed the transition, but there were people who completed it in half the time I did. I think a significant portion of my time was spent running in my bike shoes to the mount line. What would you do differently?: Running with my shoes on the bike would probably help, but I'm not ready to try a mount with the shoes on the bike. There's room for improvement here, but I'll have to work up to these techniques. Bike
Comments: My bike was better than I expected. I got out fairly quick and was cruising in the 23 mph range and then my speed sensor on my bike computer quit. So I had to pace myself from my RPE. Overall, I felt pretty good and the slight grades didn't seem to phase me as much as I thought they might. The official results said 22.8 mph. However, when I drove the course, I measured it at 9.75. With either the 10 or th 9.75 I still averaged over 22 mph which I'm pretty happy with. What would you do differently?: Figure out what's wrong with my speed sensor! Transition 2
Comments: The bike in was right next to where I was racked so I didn't have to run very far in my bike shoes. I did take my time on this transition as I need to bring my heart rate down a bit. What would you do differently?: Get more water before the run. Run
Comments: Running with a bunch of extra weight is just a killer. I spent the first quarter mile trying to get my cadence up to keep my calves from cramping. The first mile and half was just challenging to keep moving. About a mile before the finish I started getting the lead feeling out of my legs a bit and I managed a pretty decent sprint to the finish. What would you do differently?: Still need to drop the weight. My father was watching the finish and the first thing he said to me was, "you look significantly heavier than all these other people." Hmmm... Trust me I could tell all the way through the run. Post race
Warm down: Not much, just walking around What limited your ability to perform faster: My running is poor. Event comments: This is only my second tri, but this seemed like a very well organized and well run event. I didn't see any mishaps on the course and there was a ton of water, gatorade, bananas easily accessible to everyone. All in all I thought this was a class event. Last updated: 2005-08-18 12:00 AM

Drove the bike and run courses the day before. This helped tremendously during the race.
Swam about 300 meters about 45 minutes before the start.
