Swim
Comments: You'd think that by my 10th triathlon I would have figured out how to swim in open water or I would have just given up by now. Did great at the start and for the first 50 yds. For some reason I just stopped, couldn't get my breathing to settle down and was never able to get calmed down for the rest of the swim. Had to breast stroke the rest of the way. It sucked. What would you do differently?: Relax and just swim. Transition 1
Comments: Practiced jumping on and getting into shoes the night before, but wasn't confident enough to try it during the race. The section of the road where you mount isn't the best, so I decided against it. I'll try it next time at Avalon. The road is smoother. I also had a hard time getting my garmin to click into the wrist strap. Thought I'd put it on wrong so I took it off and turned it around, then had to do it again because I had it right the first time. I'm an idiot. What would you do differently?: Jump on bike and get into shoes. Not screw around with Garmin. Bike
Comments: Felt OK at the start, was getting passed by the strong bikers in the next AG. Caught a few people myself, which is new and fun. Really turned it on during the second half, felt like I finally got warmed up. My legs were tired from the swim (if you can call it that). What would you do differently?: Ride harder from the start. Transition 2
Comments: Bike dismount was awesome. First time I tried it while moving. Reminded me of when I was a kid and did that all the time. Good stuff. Zoots were fairly easy to get into. Overall T2 may have been the highlight of my day. What would you do differently?: Not much. Run
Comments: Only the second time I ran off the bike this year, so it went as well as I could have expected. Struggled to get the HR under control at the start. It finally settled down at the turn and I think I probably slowed down after that. Just not in the best running shape right now. I think with more practice it'll get better. What would you do differently?: More brick workouts. Post race
Warm down: Hung out until the rain started coming down harder. Got packed up and left. What limited your ability to perform faster: Lack of training and my typical awful OWS. I do fine in the pool but can't replicate it in OWS. Being this was my 10th tri, its about time I figure it out or just stick to duathlons. Event comments: Will probably do this again mainly due to the fact that its close and I know the course pretty well. Its a good race, well organized. Last updated: 2009-06-21 12:00 AM

Woke up, had some peanut butter on wheat bread and a Gatorade. Set up transition, got marked and just kinda hung out. Talked to some folks I knew.
Swam a little just before the pre-race meeting started. Probably should have done more.
