Swim
Comments: Felt excellent in the swim and got into a great rhythm. I finally feel like I'm learning (after one summer of racing last year) how to sight a lot better and be more efficient in the water. Last year I would put my head down, breathe about every 5 strokes and swim as if I were racing in a pool- not the same! I always would end up swimming more than I had to away from the pack. This swim was the second time this season I really felt like I was really "on". Used tarzan when I had to and kept chasing the three lead girls from my wave pretty closely throughout the whole race- very happy with this swim. What would you do differently?: Now that I feel more comfortable navigating in the open water, push myself harder. Transition 1
Comments: Ran up the beach and across a little green into the transition area. Got wetsuit halfway off my torso before getting to my spot, then sat down and tore it off pretty easily. Put socks and shoes on quickly, helmet, then ran with the bike. Adrenaline pumping and I told myself to stay collected and have a strong bike, took some even deep breaths. Took a little longer than I would have liked clipping in and getting started- even though I was in an easy gear, had to totally pause, get one foot in, push off, then clip in the other. A bit awkward. What would you do differently?: Practice quickly clipping in and starting off. Bike
Comments: This was a PR for me and the highest avg I've ever had, so I was very happy with this bike. The bike is my weakest link, so I usually get frustrated by all the people passing me but I told myself this was my own race and I put my head down and pushed as hard as I could. What would you do differently?: Practice drinking from the water bottle... essential, I know... Also practice riding on the drops and hoods to get more aerodynamic since I don't have aero bars. Transition 2
Comments: Hammer gel on my way out of transition. Run
Comments: Overall I felt solid in this run, but I need to get stronger on hills. Legs were very heavy for first 3.5 miles or so, then felt excellent into the finish. What would you do differently?: Work on bike to run transitions so I get used to running with heavy legs. Run more hill repeats. Post race
Warm down: Walked around, found the port-a-potty (which was surprisingly clean and toilet-paper-plentiful after hours of existence) ate an orange slice and got water. Event comments: Excellent race for first time step up from sprints in terms of distance. Well-organized and community feel, as the race has been around for a while. Definitely would recommend this race and will be there next year. Last updated: 2009-06-23 12:00 AM

Woke up at 4:30, ate a little oatmeal with strawberries and a bit of banana, gathered my stuff, kept my head clear.
Stretched and swam for about 10 minutes, practiced sighting and keeping my stroke together and tried to get my arms nice and loose.
