Pre-race routine:

Drove to Montreal with the family. Checked into hotel and then took the wife and kids to see my old undergrad stompibng grounds. OMG - why do all the people on campus look like kids. Ohhh, becasue I'm an old guy now.

Morninig of race - quick McBreakfast and drive down onto island.

Event warmup:

None. Feeling too nervous and cold.
Swim
  • 34m 28s
  • 1500 meters
  • 02m 18s / 100 meters
Comments:

Even though my time was slow compared to others, i felt like I had a good swim.
Transition 1
  • 00m
Comments:

No timing on T1 and T2? That sux.

Anyways, it was raininig hard. Everything was wet. I was anticipating a cold bike ride.
Bike
  • 1h 19m 41s
  • 40 kms
  • 30.12 km/hr
Comments:

OMG - was that hail at one point.
The good news was that I never felt pain in my legs becasue my bare arms and face were stinging like crazy from the pounding rain.
I was soooooo cold.
Thank God for that extra 20lb layer of fat on my body - it kept me warm enough to finish.
Transition 2
  • 00m
Comments:

So wet and tired...
Run
  • 53m 18s
  • 10 kms
  • 05m 20s  min/km
Comments:

I was exhausted and walked twice. I had to run off the course to pee. I though my 10k time would be over 1hr and was very surprised to come in at just over 53min. I'm quite happy with that run.

What would you do differently?:

nothing.
Post race
Warm down:

Moaninig ad groaninig.

What limited your ability to perform faster:

Being an out of shape lump of lard.

Event comments:

This was a nice race - not as developed and organized as the Subaru or HSBC races in Ontario but the cool venue still made it very worthwile.

Course: FANTASTC COURSE in the olympic rowing basin. I am a crappy swimmer and get nervous in choppy water far from shore but there is none of that here. Always within 20m of shore and within 5m of rope. You can see the bottom most of the time.

Course: Beautiful course - the F1 racetrack was as smooth as a... racetrack. 9 laps around this track. Thank God for my accurate odometer, becasue I lost count after 1. You could really move on this track except: 1. The roads were wet and slippery and the rain and wind made visibiliy poor. 2. The hairpin turns were scary. 3. It did get crowded at times

Course: 2 laps around the rowing basin. Not that exciting - you can see the entire course all the time so it gets boring and slow runners like me have to watch as fast guys catch up and run away from me. I did pass a 70 year old lady - In your face grandma.
