Swim
Comments: Nobody to draft so that made it tough...also, like last year, I could feel my timing chip coming off so this year instead of losing it in the water, I stuffed it down my shirt. Unfortunately, I didn't get times for the swim and bike because it didn't read the chip from inside my shirt. What would you do differently?: Not lose my chip...find someone to draft Transition 1
Comments: Good quick transition with the speed suit. Learned lots during the swim clinics in Newport and it really paid off... What would you do differently?: Nothing...except for swipe my timing chip Bike
Comments: ecided to put the shoes on instead of keeping them on the bike and sliding into them. This turned out to be a mistake because the hill out of transition was harder than I thought and I couldn't get clipped in. I had to stop and start again. Once I got going though I was fine and lead the race for the women from about 4 miles into the bike until the run. It was fun passing people and cheering them on. I was never passed on the bike. What would you do differently?: Go with my initial instinct and slide my feet into the shoes instead of trying to clip into them Transition 2
Comments: Quick transition. Remembered to swipe my timing chip over the mat. Grabbed a quick drink and off I went. What would you do differently?: Nothing Run
Comments: This run is tough. The hills in the desert portion are steep and really started to wear on me. I was passed by Kimn who beat me at the Showdown at Sundown on the run. Honestly, this was a slow run for me. I have been training 5K pace around 7 - 7:30 miles so this was a little disappointing. However, I told myself I was going to hammer the bike and just hold it together on the run which is what I did. There is nothing like running in the lead of a race. It is awesome! What would you do differently?: Run faster. Post race
Warm down: Walked around and chatted with friends and waited for awards/ What limited your ability to perform faster: Full distance ironman training. Event comments: I love Sunset Racing but really after so many events it still seems like they are disorganized. Long lines to check in on registration. Volunteers giving wrong directions and miscalculations...but I keep coming back because on race day it is just downright fun. That and you can't beat the scenery. Last updated: 2009-07-05 12:00 AM
