Swim
Comments: Ran in the water and swam. Couldn't find a draft. There was one faster person in my wave, but we were spread across the beach. Didn't see her until transition. Navigated around traffic from earlier waves just fine. Didn't bump a single person the whole swim. Swam strong, never got tight arms/oxygen debt. What would you do differently?: Nada. Transition 1
Comments: Got wetsuit off fast, and no cramping in my hammies like I've had in the past. 11/258 OA 1/25 AG What would you do differently?: Flying mount. Shoes were already on bike but I stopped and just stepped onto them. Missing toenail from yesterday made me a bit cautious. ;) Got into one shoe right away but had to start climbing out of transition and didn't get into 2nd shoe for a little bit. Bike
Comments: Did pretty good here. The hills out of transition made it tough to get into a rhythym. Had to go to work right away. I got passed a couple of times from either very fast folks or guys from the previous wave. Passed a couple of others. Very little traffic at all. What would you do differently?: Drink some more. Kind of forgot about this, but didn't seem like there were many places to drink when you weren't flying down a hill or grinding up one. Transition 2
Comments: Very smooth. Had a very clean dismount. In and out. 23/258 OA 3/25 AG What would you do differently?: Nada. Run
Comments: The first long hill out of transition kicked my ass pretty good, but I was able to recover and open it up nicely after that. Think my run fitness is improving! Got passed by a guy who was really moving (2nd OA), and that was it. It was quiet out there. I think this run was a tad short. What would you do differently?: Not too much. I might be able to run a bit faster if I had some more company to work off of, but thats out of my control. Just have to mentally race myself when no one else is around. Post race
Warm down: Stretching. Food. What limited your ability to perform faster: Not much besides my toenail. I've been through some shit this year, but that's behind me now! Event comments: They do a pretty good job. It's pretty low key, without being slacker-esque. Pretty friendly atmosphere and laid-back. Last updated: 2009-07-14 12:00 AM

First race in a year. Forgot what the hoopla was all about! Damn! Yesterday I was doing some transition practice and I bungled a flying mount. The toenail on my next to pinkie toe got ripped clean off. Freaking mess. Made for a very painful run and a few parts of the bike. Up at 430, took a quick shower. Had a bagel with peanut butter and honey and a bit of OJ. Then I was off to the race. Banana about an hour before the start, GU about a half hour before. Water and Accelerade in between.
Did a 10 minute run on the first part of the course, and a short swim, about 200 yards in the lake.
