Swim
Comments: Very difficult start, all entrants in one wave, men and women, fell way back during start. Calves cramped up after 1/2 way - need to fix that, this slowed me down as well. Time also reflects walking from the water - optic neuritis was trying to slow down and decide if I should continue. What would you do differently?: try to find the outside of the group to avoid some of the crowd, even if distance greater would have moved faster. I think this really tanked my time. Transition 1
Comments: came out of swim with optic neuritis and wasn't sure if should continue, so took my time during this transistion (seemed longer - some of the time in the swim time) Cramping in calves also made taking the wetsuit off difficult. Bike
Comments: was able to chase down about four women. Could definitely feel the difference between each 18 mile lap. had another women in my sights all of 2nd lap but she had enough left to escape during 3rd lap. not sure got enough to drink, but b/c cool weather two bottles seemed ok b/c had liquid waiting for run. What would you do differently?: train longer - would like to be able to do that at 19.5+ mph train with same bra top as raced in. Lost my balance bars so didn't get as much food on bike as I wanted. Fortunately b/c of the cool weather it wasn't critical. Transition 2
Comments: this one went ok, little cramping getting out of shoes, but was able to grab stuff and go. What would you do differently?: remember I already opened the balance bar wrapper b/c lost that bar too.... Run
Comments: did ok considering haven't been able to run much during summer. What would you do differently?: not get hamstring injury and train, train, train. Post race
Warm down: walking What limited your ability to perform faster: training...it's always that one factor!! Event comments: I thought the organizers did a good job with the event. I really liked the location of the event. The water / aid stations very well placed for both the run and the bike. The only complaint would be the swim start where both men and women were in a single wave for the half. This was my first half distance, so was disappointed as I chose this race because it was smaller. Last updated: 2009-07-14 12:00 AM
