Swim
Comments: For the first time ever, I felt like I did a really great swim throughout the entire portion of the swim leg. My breathing was right on, I was drafting, I seeded properly. I even rounded the buoy without resorting to breast stroke, just turned it and didn't miss a stroke. I was fairly good on sighting as well. What would you do differently?: Nada. Transition 1
Comments: A bit longer than I would have liked for the swim to bike. I think part of it is I'm now wearing biking gloves on every ride I do (after reading one too many horror stories about crashes and flesh tearing down to the bone). So that slowed me down. Putting on socks and shoes was quick. Damn gloves. What would you do differently?: Practice putting on gloves? Bike
Comments: Pretty happy with my split here, considering how brutal the hill was. I was a wuss on the thrilling downhill, was going 30 mph without even pedaling and the turns were sometimes a bit extreme. So I practiced feathering the brakes. lol. What would you do differently?: Maybe just bike more hills. Transition 2
Comments: Dude. I totally ran past my rack and then had to make a U-turn. Not that it took a lot of time, but it sort of pissed me off that I didn't see it initially. D'oh! What would you do differently?: Before the race, walk from the bike in to the rack to the run out just so I know where to go. Stupid newbie mistake. Run
Comments: Seriously? That was a great run AND I picked up the pace and passed people. Love running. Just seriously love it. What would you do differently?: Nada. (Oh, wait. Run faster). Post race
Warm down: Stretched, drank some Gatorade and water, ate a banana and a very very tasty sesame seed bagel (it's silly to say it was that tasty, but most races I go to, the bagels are like, super hard and awful and this one was fluffy and chewy and just damn good). Event comments: Excellent race. Great course. Challenging enough to keep the experienced triathlete happy, easy enough for the first time triathlon to get an idea of what it's like. Nothing fancy on the course or post-race activities, but it's well organized and friendly. Highly recommended for either a tune-up or a first-timer. Last updated: 2009-07-20 12:00 AM

Had a balance bar for breakfast (usually I go for a peanut butter sandwich and a banana, but figured that would be too much food for a sprint, so I stuck to the power bar). Loaded up the car and we headed out to Harriman.
Quick jog around the parking lot, then a brief swim in the lake.
