Swim
Comments: I cut that shit tight, I think I touched every buoy. As I was nearing the boat ramp, I for a moment set my foot down and immediately cut it on a mussel, and knew it, and the same time the woman on the ramp said "don't stand up, swim all the way to me" I though great information I could have used like 5 seconds ago. Got out looked at foot and ran into transition, did the full boy band wardrobe change into bike gear then sat down to figure out my foot, cleaned it with water and had no first aid, so said screw it I'll figure it out at the first stop on bike. As I was leaving transition, asked if anybody had first aid, they did not. What would you do differently?: not swim in raw sewage or cut my foot. Transition 1
Comments: probably one of the longer t1's in the race, so funny as I was leaving on the bike I asked a guy next to me if he had any bandaids, he said "I wish I did, I cut the shit out of my feet on those mussels" good stuff. I was happy I wasn't the only jackass What would you do differently?: bring first aid into transition area. wear a wetsuit that actually fits and expands as i breathe Bike
Comments: No real problems, gotta bandaid from a volunteer at an intersection and realized the bleeding had stopped from my foot. note to race organizers, not one first aid kit any aid station run or swim, not smart.Pearl shorts way better than my cannondales, zero ass pain. Transition 2
Comments: Very cool saw my mom and dad as I came into transition, stopped to give my mom a hug and she said "get your ass movin"... Run
Comments: started run and my dad said you need like a 220 to beat 7 hours so kind of took it easy at first, saw Brad almost right away, knew he had simply taken the course behind the woodshed and slapped it's ass. He looked like he had just passed the first female and was strong, gave a little hi 5 and then saw Tim, like 300 yards later, looked very strong as well, very impressive. Kept looking for heidi but very little of the run, you could actually see other competitors, so missed Heidi and Laura and knew K was going to be just like half hour 40 minutes in front of me, so I knew would not catch or see her. What would you do differently?: drink more Post race
Warm down: Pizza, massage, etc... What limited your ability to perform faster: training, lack thereof Event comments: Beautiful race course, great day, good friends, got to see my parents, and Heidi and everybody else including me finished with no issues bike or health, really all you can ask for. Woke up at 3:56. 4 minutes before the wakeup call after the AC cut on very loud. made coffee, coffee maker still had residual coffee from the day before, and we had just checked in so it was a little gross, nice job cleaning crew. Coffee was folgers. class act holiday inn. I think we spent about 6 hours in the hotel total, I should have asked if they rented by the hour like all respectable hotels. Got to race at 5, good and early and met the crew soon after. Heidi headed to Transition with them, I ate a mini bagel with peanut butter and listened to eminem.
got all the shit into transition, headed to the beach with the crew gave Heid a big kiss wished her luck gave hugs to everyone. First wave, so we made are way out thru the rocks into the start area TIm and Brad took off, walked out with Doug wished him luck and here we go.
