Swim
Comments: This felt much longer than 500m. That was the general concensus of most of who we talked with afterwards. What would you do differently?: Work on my swimming. I hate how everyone is all in my business. Not sure what I could do about that though, other than gain more experience doing OW swims. Transition 1
Comments: T1 time is included in bike split, I think. This was the longest T1 I've ever seen. There was a long run through a gravel parking lot to get to the street where the mount line was. What would you do differently?: Learn how to mount bike with shoes already clipped in. Would've saved time in T1, rather than running with shoes in hand as I did this time around. Bike
Comments: Pushed extra hard in the beginning so as to gain as much ground as quickly as possible. Knowing my husband was racing to catch up was good incentive. After he passed me, I still tried to maintain a good cadence & tried to push as much as possible. What would you do differently?: Not sure I would change anything. I felt very good about this leg. There's always room for speed improvement though, and maybe some more hill work. Transition 2
Comments: Included in the bike split, I think. What would you do differently?: No complaints. Felt very good overall. Run
Comments: I gave so much on the bike that I didn't have anything to give for the run. I concentrated on putting one foot in front of the other and kept moving. I knew if I stopped to walk, I'd never start running again, so I kept going. Calves were knots & I had a stitch in my right side. Breathing was good though, because I concentrating on keeping it regulated. What would you do differently?: Just work on my running in general. This is my weakest leg of the three. Also, I need to wear taller socks. At some point, my sock worked its way down in my shoe & rubbed a raw spot on my heel. Felt hard-core though to finish the race with a bloody sock & shoe. :-) Post race
Warm down: Walked around finish area with my husband & children. What limited your ability to perform faster: Lack of endurance. My breathing was horrible the whole way through. Event comments: This was a good race for my first sprint distance. I would ask the RD to reevaluate the transitions for next time as well as check the distances on all three legs. All three seemed much longer than what they were supposed to be. Overall, I am pleased with my performance in this race. I exceeded my personal expectations. I wanted to finish at around 2 hrs, I did. I wanted to give more on the bike leg this time, I did. I wanted to survive the run, I did, AND I did it without walking at all, a BIG accomplishment for me. So, I am VERY happy with how I did. :-) Last updated: 2005-09-05 12:00 AM

Ate a banana & half of a Kashi bar. Drank lots of water.
Got the transition area set up. Got clarification on the swim as well as the run & bike in's & out's. Watched the Iron distance swimmers start & then watched the first few come out of the water & start their bike leg.
