Swim
Comments: Nice swim was a little hard to see the bouys with the sun. My goal was to swim in about 35-36 min and i did it in 33:42 so i was happy with that. Transition 1
Comments: was a long run through transition since my bike was like one of the furthest away from the swim in but really close to the start of the bike so that wasn't too bad. I just took my time through T1 just to make sure i got all my gels and spare tube and tools. What would you do differently?: could have been a bit faster i guess Bike
Comments: Well i was expecting to do much better on the bike since its my strongest out of the three. Most people i talked to that have done the race before said to just take it easy the first 25-30 miles then pick up the pace for the rest and that the last 15 miles will be very fast. I did take it somewhat easy in the beggining. I was avg 22.3 which was pretty much on track as i was expecting to ride about 2:30. Once i got onto the blue star highway it really slowed me down i don't think i hit above 20mph even on the downhills. Overall i wasnt too upset about being 10 min behind pace considering how windy it was. Transition 2
Comments: It was kinda hard to run my bike to my rack with people sitting in the way putting there shoes on. What would you do differently?: Just took my time again could have been a little faster but no big deal Run
Comments: I started the run feeling really good so i had to slow myself down since my first mile was a 7:29 and i knew i would blow up if i kept going that fast. After about 3 miles the battery on my watch died so i didnt know what pace i was doing or my heart rate which kinda sucked. After the first lap i kicked it up a bit to about 7:45 pace(estimate). At around 11 mile mark my quads started to get stiff and cramp so i slowed down a bit. The last half mile i really took it slow because my legs would cramp more often but i made it. What would you do differently?: More running in training! I only would run tuesday nights with the tri club i work out with and it would never be more then a 10k. Other then that i would maybe do one other run a week. Thats why i signed up for the detroit marathon it will force me to get out and run more often. Post race
Warm down: rode my bike 1.79 miles to the hotel at about 5mph What limited your ability to perform faster: The worst park of the race was once i got off the bike and ran to rack my bike i noticed my ankle strap was rubbing becuase it had sand all over it. At the aid station right at end of transition before run start i rinsed it off with water trying to get the sand off but i was all in the velcrow so i just started my run thinking it would be fine. It scratched at my ankle the whole run but i didn't look at it or think much of it. When i finished and the lady took off my strap i looked down and most of my shoe had blood all over it and i took of my shoe and my white sock was now red. That was the worst part of the whole race but other then that and the wind on the bike it was fun. Event comments: Nice race good chance ill do it again next year. Last updated: 2009-08-03 12:00 AM

Woke up around 4am. For breakfast i had two poptarts a banana and some gatorade. I left the hotel at 5 and had my dad drop me off at the entrance to the park about half mile from transition. I set up all my crap and pumped up my tires then started to walk to the swim start.
Warm up was pretty much the 1.2 mile walk to the swim start. Once i got there I still had about 50 minutes before my wave started (wave 10) so i went for a quick swim.
