  • Comments: Overall, this was a good Ironman 70.3 race. The Lake Michigan swim was intimidating, but fun. The roads on the bike course were rough, but as expected for the Midwest. The course was not as interesting as I had hoped. The run course was fine with a couple of large hills. They could have done a bit more. It seems that this was a bit "Ironman Lite" with no wetsuit strippers and fewer run aid stations than typical. It was good to do a race in my home state.

  • Comments: Two times raced, two times top 5. Not too bad! Only IM brand race I've ever gotten an award at. :D Always so fun to race with Team EN (it was a focus race and I got to see Brenda, Carol and Turby, Rob,meet Cheryl,Bill, Scott and Julian) Great to race with so many local tri friends and family-The Penlands, Cath, Terese, Yvette and Mike, Bill O, Roman. Having Mariah and Johnny on course was awesome. Johnny was my sherpa and it was wonderful to have him there! His girl Sara is really nice too. She saved me with a Ponytail holder. It's my magic pony tail holder now lol. Bonus---saw my buddy Alec Penland (Curt and Poranees son-I just love this kid!) and got a nice post race hug! He's a WMU guy and we just get along great. So good to see him! As usual, the people I share the day with really make the race for me.

  • Comments: Race day was OK,but registration the day before was pretty bad. I stood in line in the hot sun for almost 2 hours. I've never had that before. They needed more shade. They did bring the people in line a small bottle of water. having to go almost an hour between aid stations on the bike I thought was too long. This was my 70.3 PR by about 8.5 minutes. The last time I did this race was in 2009 and I beat that time by 30 minutes.

  • Comments: A good race and a great venue! The water clarity was better than any race I have ever done and the bike course fast.

  • Comments: Excellent race at a nice venue. Well organized. Great volunteers. Plenty of aid stations. Good crowd support. I liked that I could bring my bike on race day and not check in the day before.

  • Comments: I know what I am capable of. A shame not to be able to take advantage of it here. This will keep me hungry for next year. Extremely happy with my swim and bike performance. Next year I will put it all together. I am right there with IM 70.3 WC contention if I run to my potential.

  • Comments: The race is good. The venue is weird and probably only there because Maytag/Whirlpool is a major sponsor. Hotels are scarce and far, well ours was not but I got really lucky. The bike course was fun the run course was not good for me. I think they need more aide stations on the run. 2.5 miles apart on an 89 degree day is a bit much. Even now 8 days later I am unsure why the run went so horribly wrong. I was in a good mental place about it was all stoked up to not completely suck and I fell apart hard and fast. No idea

  • Comments: I graded myself as follows: Swim: B, T1: B, Bike: A-, T2: B-, Run: C. I beat my goal time of 6 hours, so I'm definitely happy about that. Very well organized event. Ironman branded events have a reputation of being very well put together and this being my first lived up to my expectation.

  • Comments: Great race as usual. Well organized. Well run. Great competion. Super volunteers and nice crow support on the run. A race that is definitely worth doing. I want to make sure that I mention my coach, Steve Johnson, AKA DarkHorseTri. He has taken me from a guy who wanted to break 5:00 for a HIM to a guy that is disappointed that he didn't break 4:40 and that has a goal of getting to 4:30. Steve is really good at what he does and had made me a much more complete and better triathlete. I was mentally thanking him for all of the work on the bike while out there on Sunday. This is the first time that I remember thinking that I was really prepared for the bike (while I was out riding it).

  • Comments: Great Race! Lots of volunteers, well organized, great courses - weather was terrific on race day. While not a PR, I did move up in AG percentile. • Comments: Not a great spectator race. Overall I'm pretty happy with my time. Didn't have stomach issues. Have to improve on the run. I was happy with my mental toughness. Felt like throwing in the towel in the middle of the run but kept going.

  • Comments: Race site does not have group rank for individual disciplines. Was DQed because I stopped running at mile 7, and walked back via a short cut. I had a plane to catch in the late afternoon in Chicago, so I had to hustle back to the race ending. I'll never ever schedule something later in the day of race if at all possible. Really hampered my ability to try and gut out the end of the race.

  • Comments: As always, the race experience is made for me by racing with my friends. There were 12 Fraser peeps and 2 ATCK peeps racing... that made the weekend and race. Nell, Joe and Sara all completed their first 70.3's and Sara burst into tears of joy afterwards during our hug. That was awesome to share with her!!! I had big goals for the race: tiny pr in all disciplines and try to earn a slot to 70.3 World Championships. I'd said it outloud to my training partners. A first. So when birthday boy Steve showed me Iron Trac for my race, and it said 1st in my division I was ecstatic, and in disbelief, especially since I didn't feel like I'd raced well and was far from a PR. I was so geeked to believe ( mistakenly) that I'd earned the slot! Heaven for an hour! LOL. Then the error was corrected and I was 2nd in AG. BUT...the gal who was first did not take her slot, and I got the roll down. It's hard to be disappointed when you get what you'd hoped for and land on the podium! Steve,

  • Comments: I will be doing this race again next year. I liked the course and the area. I be sure the get more long brick workouts in the next time around. Training this year had been really hard with a newborn and other things going on here. I'm confident that I can greatly improve on my time.

  • Comments: I really love this race and the RD puts on a great show. Awesome volunteers, plenty of stuff, but I really hope there is some road resurfacing in the near future. Looking forward to getting back at it for October's HIM and finding some strong redemption.

  • Comments: I really enjoyed this race. I do love hills on the bike course, I find they make time go a lot faster. One nasty hill on the run, which we had to do twice. But very well organized race.

  • Comments: I absolutely LOVED this race. Next year I'm thinking about doing either Racine or Steelhead. I'd love to come back to this one, but a mate of mine alreday signed up for Racine, so....we'll see. I will be back, though.
