Swim
Comments: Tried to seed myself about half way back and to the right. I somehow ended up in almost the front row! Started out way too fast as I was starting with the elites and somehow figured I would be able to keep pace with them. What was I thinking!?!?! I was also all over the course and ended up swimming at least an extra 100 m. At the first turn buoy I got into a nice rhythm and started to settle down. The water was very shallow near the beach and I stood up early and walked the last 50 m which seemed just as fast as swimming it. There was a long run up to the transition from the water which was included in the swim time and not T1 What would you do differently?: Definitely need to work on sighting and not trick myself into thinking that I could keep up with the elites. Transition 1
Comments: Had a bit of trouble undoing the wetsuit and getting my arms out of the sleeves. Putting the swim cap and goggles in the sleeved work really, really well. I also wore my tri top under my wetsuit for the first time which really helped out in transition. Still haven't mastered the shoes on the bike thing, so put them on and then ran with the bike out of transition to the mount line. What would you do differently?: Perhaps running more to the transition and being able to undo the wetsuit with more ease. Bike
Comments: Started out the bike a little too hard but realized this early on and was able to back it off. First race on my new Cervelo P2 so I was really able to test it out. I had a great ride and the only problem was I had to slow down considerably through the no passing zones as the roads were too narrow to pass safely. I was drinking gatorade and had a GU with me but didn't eat it. What would you do differently?: Nothing Transition 2
Comments: When I came back to transition, someone had racked their bike on top of where my stuff was. As it was a wave start this person hadn't started the bike yet. So I had to try and move their bike over and rake my bike which cost me a little bit of time. Took off bike shoes and put on running shoes, grabbed my hat and I was off. What would you do differently?: Nothing, hope that someone doesn't rack their bike where mine was. Run
Comments: Started out the run and was doing well during the first 2 km and then GI issues started. I had major stomach cramps, I believe from the gatorade that I was drinking on the bike. I tried slowing down for a while which helped but then when I picked up the pace again, the cramps came back. I pretty much jogged/ran the last 5.5 km of the run section. Tried to drink some water and keep myself cool by pouring it on my arms and head but still felt like I was overheating as well. The course was mainly on grass and roads with a small section in sand, which was very hard to run on. What would you do differently?: Need to work on bike nutrition to figure out what went wrong on the run. Post race
Warm down: walked around for a while and chatted with people, grabbed some water and food but nothing really appealed to me. Waited for awards to start. What limited your ability to perform faster: Sighting and nutrition problems which slowed me down significantly on the run. Event comments: Overall a good race. I ended up as third in the clydsedales < 40 yrs old category and won my first triathlon medal! Last updated: 2009-08-04 12:00 AM

Woke up at 4:30 and couldn't believe it was time to get up. Ate some oatmeal with Raisins and brought a banana to eat on the way. Stopped at Tim Horton's for tea and managed to spill it on myself. Then drove to the waterfront.
I was able to get a swim in before my wave at 8:12. Did some arm circles while listening to some pre race instructions
