Pre-race routine:

Started 5 months ago in Kinesiology lab talking about running and me and 5 friends decided we would do a tri, we asked everyone if they thought we should split it because there was NO WAY i was going to do a whole one by myself..glad I didn't do a relay. 5 months later....and finally race day
Got up at 4:30, at toast, banana, and peanut butter. Picked up one of my buddies and got to rec plex at 5:45
Event warmup:

got everything set up then took lots of pictures and talked with some people, made my way down to the swim start and stood in the water got some strokes in and then waited 50 minutes till my wave

Comments:

I have decided I'm not cut out to be a triathlete swimmer, I'm too nice. Started int he front corner and as soon as i started i got cut off by a girl on each side of me, the kicked in the head so i just stopped then found some space and went. Overall my swim was good for me took 2 minutes off my swim (a bad one but still)on Wednesday.
What would you do differently?:

Train more, and start further back or more to the side
Transition 1
  • 03m 31s
Comments:

Not really in issue especially for my first one. Dropped my bike computer on the way out and thankfully someone told me so went back and got it.
What would you do differently?:

Be faster and make sure my computer on well.
Bike
  • 42m 25s
  • 12.4 miles
  • 17.54 mile/hr
Comments:

It was hard starting so late I felt like I was just riding on the left side because I had to pass so many people. Started off well then about 3 miles out got stuck at an intersection behind a truck with horses, angry because i had to off road it to pass the truck then come to almost a complete stop before going up a pretty big hill. Overall, I really pushed and was pleased with my time. wish i had bike shoes, probably would have saved my hip flexors
What would you do differently?:

get some bike shoes, go faster
Transition 2
  • 02m 45s
Comments:

overall good, meet up with one of my friends at bike dismount so that was nice
What would you do differently?:

nothing really
Run
  • 26m 33s
  • 3.1 miles
  • 08m 34s  min/mile
Comments:

I've run this after biking a lot which was nice, legs felt pretty good, the hip flexors not so much.only walked so i could drink down some Gatorade and water at the two water stops. Fastest pace I've ever ran!!
What would you do differently?:

nothing, run more
Post race
Warm down:

meet with the parents, then took more pictures, gathered my stuff and walked about a mile to the car

What limited your ability to perform faster:

Lack of open water training

Event comments:

Really good for my first tri! I'm officially hooked can't wait for next season!
