Swim
Comments: Choppy swim, much more than I remember it being last year. I swallowed a few gulps of water and it was a bit tough to sight the buoys, but a good challenge. Transition 1
Comments: Didn't sit down to peel off my wetsuit like I did in a few other races this year, not sure which ends up being quicker. Almost went the wrong way out of the transition area but luckily someone was nice to let me know immediately! That could have been bad. What would you do differently?: Make sure I know for SURE how to get out of the transition. Bike
Comments: Overall, this was my best bike race this year. I stood up attacking the shorter hills and tried not to spin too fast and be too comfortable, which I tend to do. Also, I focused on not being too timid going down hills and reached my max speed ever (36 mph). What would you do differently?: Still have to get more confident and learn to push harder instead of spinning too comfortably in a smaller gear. A lot to learn still on the bike, but I'm looking forward to working hard to get faster. Transition 2
Comments: Took off my shoes to run down the hill, so I had to stop for a bit to do that. Probably added a little bit of time onto my bike split. What would you do differently?: Felt this went smoothly overall. My legs felt relatively fresh coming off the bike so maybe get them moving more quickly earlier on to set the pace in a shorter race. Run
Comments: Had my fastest mile pace this year, so I was happy with that. My first mile was a bit slower at 8:35, but my legs felt better the last 2 miles so I was able to pick it up to the finish. The finish was sandy and resistant since it was on the beach, so I sprinted very awkwardly to the line. What would you do differently?: Work on my speed this fall- interval runs. Post race
Warm down: Packed up my things in transition and walked around the post-race area with my parents, who came to watch. Event comments: Great, organized, fun local race. Beautiful, quiet area and the crowd- athletes and spectators- was friendly and supportive. I will certainly come back to do it again for a third year. Last updated: 2009-08-10 12:00 AM

Woke up at 4:45 and prepared. Stomach was being extra finicky, so I ate a smaller portion of oatmeal with banana. 40 min or so drive to the start.
Stretched and a little swim.
