Pre-race routine:

Woke up around 3 & stayed in bed trying to sleep more until 4:50. Changed into race outfit & got everything assembled. Drove to the resevoir while eating 2 clif bars & drinking some gatorade.
Event warmup:

No real warm-up. Got my transition area set up & went to the bathroom. Got to the beach 7 minutes before wave 7 started at 7.

Comments:

The swim went well, but I think I am capable of going faster. The start was pretty chaotic, but I got into a groove in the second half.

Post race
Warm down:

Enjoyed meeting up with my husband, his parents, my mom, and some friends! I'm lucky to have such wonderful support.

Event comments:

I did 2 other triathlons before this, a sprint in 2004 & a half-iron in 2005. Looking back I don't think I was ready to take on the half-iron in 2005; I walked most of the run & finished in 7:02. Over the past 4 years I have done 5 marathons and have seen my running improve. I decided to try another triathlon and starting training in May 2009. I was happy I was able to complete this race well. :)

Course: I felt that I paced this well. On the second half of the first lap I felt tired and slowed a bit, but did well on the second lap overall. Ended up passing some people on the second half of the second lap & felt fresh & good. For only 3 months of bike training I am pleased with this outcome.

Course: I think I am capable of doing better on this as well, but considering the heat & rolling hills I think I did pretty well. I slowed a tiny bit on the second lap, but overall kept a good pace & did not need to stop to walk. Passed people at the end of the second lap & felt tired, but good at the finish!
