Swim
Comments: Swam a little slower than I thought I would. This was my first race ever last year. Finished the swim and bike before they called the race for bad weather last year. Last year I swam 3:44 and I have gotten faster in the water. Have done several 200 yd TT under 3:40. Don't really know what went wrong today.....but .... What would you do differently?: ...just need to swim more. Transition 1
Comments: T1 and T2 were added into bike times, but I did lap my times on my watch. Took 1 min to run from swim to transistion, then 49 seconds in transisition. What would you do differently?: Need to practice leaving shoes on bike, currently putting shoes on then clipping in at mount line. Bike
Comments: Rode as hard as I thought I was capable, felt like throwing up with a mile or to to go so I guess that means that I pushed as hard as I could. Second race over 21 mph. Same race last year I avg. 18.5 mph for 8.23 miles. So workouts paying off. Was only passed once right out of the gate. I later caught same guy on the run and passed him, finishing a few seconds in front. What would you do differently?: Warm up, saw lots of guys warming up on the bike course before race started, but I got to the setup too late. It won't happen again if I can help it. Transition 2
Comments: Was out of bike shoes as I came to dismount line. Did flying dismount. Dismount line was actually pretty close to my bike rack. That was a nice change. Watch showed T2 as 23:96 seconds from bike dismount till I left transistion on run. Slid on shoes (Yankz), grabbed belt and put on race belt as I left T2. What would you do differently?: nothing Run
Comments: Heart rate was amped up from the bike, looked down at my Garmin and was on wrong screen to see current pace. Decided not to use watch as crutch and just run. I felt let down the last couple of races that I punked out on the run. Always backing off during the run. Felt better after today. Was only passed once on the run and passed quite a few. What would you do differently?: Nothing. Got into Tri's exactly one year ago after running for a couple of months. This was my first race. I feel as if I came along way. Started running at nearly 240 lbs, raced this race last year at 215 and raced today at 195. The journey has been great and addictive. Post race
What limited your ability to perform faster: warm up needed next race. Event comments: First hardware!!! Finished 2nd in 30-34 male. I sniffed the podium a few races having come in 4th twice. Still got a smile on my face! Last updated: 2009-08-15 12:00 AM
