Swim
Comments: started in the thick of it this time rather than on the end but made my way out of the pack and off to the side. Didn't mean to but it did no harm, maybe only added on a few meters. Really started to push it in the last 300m and started to pass swimmers. not sure why it took so long to push, I think I was trying to calm myself down in the first 400m. What would you do differently?: calm down in the first 100m and get into the pushing groove earlier Transition 1
Bike
Comments: Lesson for this race: it's really easy to focus on a rider ahead and aim to catch and pass because so many different waves of age groups will be on the course in front of you because it is 3 loops. I work well focusing like this. What would you do differently?: drink more, take corners better, maybe figure out my limits of really tight turn arounds Transition 2
Comments: rack by race number so no fooling around and being in a space that's not yours. What would you do differently?: take my powerade on the start of the run rather than stand there and refeul. Run
Comments: tried to find a good pace (slightly above comfortable) but the heat got the better of me at 4km, walked a station and took in a good deal of water and then resumed a good pace, which was slower than before. The sun was hot... it was just a hot day. What would you do differently?: maybe a visor for the sun and sweat on my face Post race
Event comments: good venue, despite the lapping, good day, despite the heat and great swag. I won a good watch in the draw prizes. Last updated: 2009-08-15 12:00 AM

oatmeal and latte at home - had no toast
biked with gear the 4km through the ex grounds and lakeshore to meet a friend and catch the 7:30 ferry. The Ferry was packed only half the people in the line to get on actually got on, we were lucky, we were the last ones. My friend now had over 1 hour to prep and I had 90min before my wave - which turned out the be a good thing.
We went down to the water to test temperature and see the first wave off, more than an hour before my wave. It was good to see, figure out the transition set up and take my time setting up and getting to the start. Put my wetsuit on and headed to the shore 25min before my race to cool down on the sandy bottom and watch my friends wave. did a few lengths in the water and moved my suit around to fit perfectly. felt really ready, far better than in the past when I've been dashing to the start and miss the announcements
