Pre-race routine:

Ate a bagel with peanut butter and a banana. Hydrated, set up my transition area. Nothing unusual.

Very pleased with my swim. Went slow the first 200 purposefully to keep my heart rate down and it allowed me to complete my longest open water swim to date with no breast stroke.
What would you do differently?:

More pool time could get my technique better, but I was pleased with my swim given my relative lack of training prior

Worst leg of the race for me. Difficult to pace on a trail run with no mile markers.
What would you do differently?:

Nothing really. Checking the course before hand wouldn't have really helped because the woods looked the same everywhere.

Great race for beginners and challenging enough for seasoned triathletes. Would have given the race a 4/5 if not for the long run and no mile markers on the trail.

Course: The course must have been long. If I had one complaint about the race was the inaccurate run distance. Quickest run of the day was 20:06 and mine was 29:54-- a full 8 minutes slower than a training run I did a few days prior that was supposedly the same distance.
