Swim
Comments: My best swim yet in any tri. Plenty of contact at the start but that stuff does not bother me at all. Paced myself nicely and felt great coming out of water. The time included a roughly 2 minute run to transition so my pace in the water was below 2min per 100m. What would you do differently?: I'll try pushing a bit faster next time Transition 1
Comments: transition went well. Extra steps over previous trytri's included putting on socks, hydrating and some Goo. What would you do differently?: Well I did the old hold my cap and goggles in my hand and let go in the sleeve while taking off the suit. I no longer own those goggles and cap so I probably won't do that again. Could not get up to speed for first 500m as there was a no passing zone and a group of four of us got stuck behind a person who was going at a 25km/h pace ugh. Bike
Comments: Good ride. Could have pushed harder but had to save some gas for the run, my weakest link. Had to slow down to properly hydrate. My turn arounds flat out sucked. What would you do differently?: Had trouble drinking. Get some aerobars and setup a better hydration system. Transition 2
Comments: Good quick transition that included nutrition and hydration but..... as I started my run leaving the run chute I realized I had left my helmet on. Chucked it on the ground and asked a spectator to put it by the fence. She did thanks! What would you do differently?: uh takeoff helmet in transition.... Run
Comments: ran 5:15-5:20 1km splits on first 3 km. Some mild stomach cramp/stitch between km 4-5. Survived last 2.5 km. Last km a ran really well as I knew my goal of sub 2 hours was in reach. Passed lots of people on last km as well. What would you do differently?: maybe not a full goo pack during run. Post race
Warm down: shirt off, walked around, stretch and water. What limited your ability to perform faster: I reached my stretch goal of sub 2 hours (thought 2:10 could happen) but harder training and coaching would help. Event comments: Great race. Very organized, clear directions on run and bike. Good BBQ and food selection. Great location. Weather was really hot (almost 20% DNF) This is the best event I've done with Multi-Sport yet. Now I'm completely hooked on real tri's. Last updated: 2009-08-17 12:00 AM

My first non Try a Tri
Was originally entered in the TryTri on Saturday but due to bike issues, a crappy bike pump and my ineptitude with presta valves I missed the race. Knowing there was this longer race on the Sunday I drove down to the event registration and signed up for this race which would be my longest triathlon by far.
Woke up at 4am.....
I was anxious and excited for my longest tri yet. Especially considering that I had not trained for the distances and the humidex was going to be pushing the temps high. Got to ferry docks at 6:10. Chatted up a guy with the same bike on the ferry ride over to the island.
Got to transition area and setup. Did some stretching, hydrating, stomach cleansing and an easy 100m swim.
