Swim
Comments: The swim was in a small lake. The water was extremely dirty. It was so dirty that when I put my face in the water it seemed like night time - absolute black out. The swim start was crowded with lots of swimming over, hitting, punching, got kicked "you know where". After the first loop things thinned out a bit. My swim pace hasn't improved much during the past season. Still swimming about at the 2 minute mark. My goggles fogged several times. I wore my clear ones. It's probably time for new ones. Even with anti fog solution, they still fogged up. This made sighting difficult. I veered off course several times and always to the right. Transition 1
Comments: The swim exit was up a boat ramp to the top of hill, then down a steep, grassy hill to transition area. There was a carpet from the grass to the concrete. I stepped on a rock under the carpet, ouch! Bruised the arch of my foot. The run from the swim exit to transition was about a quarter mile. I washed my feet at transition, socks on, bike shoes on and ran to transition exit. It was great not having to strip off a wetsuit. What would you do differently?: Not much. Bike
Comments: As soon as I exited T1, the passing party started. During the first loop I was constantly passing other athletes. Then, the course cleared up for a while. About half way through the second loop the course became crowded again. The police did a great job controlling traffic and let the cyclist through at all intersections. I was worried that they would stop the cyclists to allow cars through. At one of the 180 turns, traffic was backed up. Some of the cars started blowing their horns. There were a few pissed off motorist. This was a great bike ride. I felt comfortable and fast. My HRM wasn't working and I liked that for a race this short. I rode on feel, cadence and speed. I was able to stay on the aero bars through the 90s but had to use the bull horns for the 180s. Overall this was a great ride. What would you do differently?: Maintain focus. At some points I felt like my speed was slipping due to loosing focus. Transition 2
Comments: I took my feet out of my bike shoes just before turning into transition. While running to my transition area, I took off my helmet. At transition, my bike racked perfectly. Slipped on my running shoes (love those elastic laces). Then out to the run course. This was great transition. What would you do differently?: Nothing. Run
Comments: Can you say "PR". This is the fastest 10k I've ever run. I really felt the Chi running form working for me. It was a very comfortable run. Again, no HRM so I ran on feel. I tried to check my pace, but the course lacked good mile markers. I suppose the aid stations were at the mile points, but this wasn't made clear. I was passed by a couple of guys in my age group. I tried to stay with them, but they were a little too fast for me. What would you do differently?: Not much. Run faster. Post race
Warm down: Not much. Walked around. Drank water. Then saw a guy with a flag. It was Ghart. Stood around the finish line and talked to Gary. Met up with JeepFleep and OldAg. Talked with them a while after the race. It was nice meeting other BT'ers. What limited your ability to perform faster: The run. I'm running much faster than when I started this about a year ago. But, I want to run faster and will work on that during the coming season. Event comments: This was a great event - close to home, well organized, course was challenging. There were ~800 athletes; about 300 more than last year. I'll do this one again. Last updated: 2005-09-15 12:00 AM

Awake at 04:30. Drank coffee. Ate Cliff bar, milk, OJ, yogart. Gear was pakced the night before. Headed out about 5:15. The event site was about 20 minutes from home.
Not much warm up. Swam in the lake for about 5 minutes then stood around for about 20 minutes waiting on my wave.
