Water was choppy. Got choked a little early and the old panic attack set in. Really wanted to quit, but there wasn't a kayak close by. So, I started back swimming freestyle and calmed down a bit. Was fine as long as I was swimming freestyle. If I ever stopped to look around or lost my rythm, I got scared again. After, I rounded the last buoy to head back to the shore I was fine. Spent way too much time trying to figure out how to get out of the water. Forgot all about form and efficiency, swam for survival.

Legs felt good for such a hard bike. Really had no expectations for the run because I really haven't been training for short distance speed. I did beat my time from last year and rode the bike much harder beforehand. Was so happy with my bike time, I just enjoyed the run.
What would you do differently?:

Actually train for 5K pace.

What limited your ability to perform faster:

Fear of the water and not enough swim drills. Also, not enough 5K pace training.

Event comments:

This is a great race. It's very laid back and a lot of fun.
