Swim
Comments: There were so many people in my wave that I couldn't swim as fast I as wanted at the beginning. In fact, I didn't even know that I had past the first buoy and didn't have enough room to really move up until after the second buoy. The swim was so congested that I was swimming over people and couldn't see anything but chop for the majority of the swim. What would you do differently?: For Sprint races I'd start at the front. Transition 1
Comments: The suit still gets stuck on my heels, but this race it went rather well. The length of T1 was because of the need to put a vest on for the bike ride. After the swim it was still incredibly cold. What would you do differently?: Not much. But maybe next time I'd leave the vest. It helped but it slowed me down and I wonder how much faster I would have been if I didn't do that. Bike
Comments: I took 95% of the hills seated, spinning at a good cadence, and I think that helped. I felt fresher for the run than I did in some other races where I pushed hard on the hills. What would you do differently?: Not much during the race, but it seems that I'm a one speed racer right now. I go 18+ mph for a race, no matter the distance or conditions. Nice and consistent, but it would be nice to get faster. Transition 2
Comments: Forgot my race number in transition and had to peel off my vest. The vest threw me off. What would you do differently?: Don't race with a vest next time! Run
Comments: Felt good on the run... short strides, good turnover. What would you do differently?: Nothing. Post race
Warm down: Stretching, walking, and drinking lots of water and the rest of my energy drink What limited your ability to perform faster: Not enough bricks during the season and strangely enough my bike & run are the areas I work the most on and the ones that I'm the slowest on. Event comments: Very odd transition area that had the bike and run emptying out onto a gravel path. Too many people in each wave. Overall a good race for beginners. This was my last race of the season and mentally I needed a break after this race, but physically I think I could have done a half marathon or a metric century sometime during the fall. Got there about 2 hours before the start. The weather was terribly cold and I should have brought warmer clothing. I got my number and found my spot in transition. After setting up transition I got body-marked, used the bathroom, and then warmed up.
My warm up consisted of a 10 minute run, a 10 minute bike ride, and a 5 minute swim.
