Run
Comments: The was a great race for me. My first half marathon and the first time I ran over 10 miles. My goal was to average 10 minute miles, which I did. I was very happy with a (slight) negative split. Temperature was great during the run (it got very cold after though.) The first mile was crowded but had no problems after that (other than the turnaround.) What would you do differently?: I peaked a little early on my training due to the Thanksgiving holiday. This added to my stress as I never got to run more than 10 miles prior to the race. The race dynamics though really resulted in no problem making the additional 3.1 miles. ALso would leave a little earlier for parking. Post race
Warm down: Wandered a bit aimlessly for a bit looking for people I knew. Finally found my BT mentor (all the way from CANADA!!) and chatted with him for a while. After he had to leave I went back to the finish line to wait for my husband to finish the full. Unfortunately he misjudged his time (had a lot of cramping and muscles problems from doing the Atlanta marathon on Thanksgiving) so I wound up waiting 45 minutes in the cold. By the time he did finish I was an icicle! What limited your ability to perform faster: Nothing - this was as good as I could have hoped for! Event comments: It might be better to stagger the half and the full starters as the staging area is too small and very crowded! Also, everyone is supposed to line up by pace, but obvuisly people do not honor it as I was passing walkers very early in the race and positioned myself in the back of the 9 minute group. Post race food and drink looked good but we did not participate. Last updated: 2009-09-08 12:00 AM

We were staying "off island" in Mount Pleasant, about 45 minutes away. We gave ourselves only a 15 minute cushion to get to the shuttle by 6:45, the recommended drop-dead time. At 6:30, we were a couple of miles away and traffic came to a standstill. At 7:00, still in the car and getting worried. In the end, we made it in time just barely. The upside was there was not a lot of standing around in the cold before the race. The downside was a lot of stress and no time to stretch or warm up.
None really. By the time we got bibs, chips, and stashed our gear, it was time to line up. WHile I was targeting 10 minute miles, I lined up at the back of the 9 minute group as I thought it was insulting to lump with with the "walkers"! :)
