Pre-race routine:

Woke up and felt better, my ear didnt hurt too bad and I wasnt dizzy. I knew if it was a training day, I would have got up and gone on the group ride or whatever and seeing as this was to be a training race (for IMAZ), I knew I should do it! The boys were at Grandmas and hubby was at work, so I just had myself to get ready. I didnt do bike drop the day before incase I wasnt racing, so I got down to Tempe early enough to do packet pickup, rack the bike and find my friends.
Event warmup:

I got into the wetsuit, chatted and then lined up. I wasnt nervous at all. I dont typically get nervous before a race but this was a training day for me, so no pressure :-)
Swim
  • 37m 16s
  • 2112 yards
  • 01m 46s / 100 yards
Comments:

I was in the last wave to go, the first pro was finishing as I entered the water to get ready. A decent swim for me. 2 mins faster than last year. Had a heck of a time seeing on the way out due to the sunrise.
What would you do differently?:

I need better goggles for IMAZ.
Transition 1
  • 01m 8s
Bike
  • 2h 31m 3s
  • 56 miles
  • 22.24 mile/hr
Comments:

A bit slower than last year but the course was different. We did these wierd loops under the bridges on the north side of the lake, added some hills but also was no way to go fast in that area. Lots of u-turns ad I was being conservative today, usually I am more aggressive but I dont want to get hurt 4 weeks before IMAZ. One lady rode my wheel for almost 1.5 laps. Sheesh! Hope she enjoyed the free ride! 3rd fastest bike time so not too bad. Liked the new bike and HEDs.
What would you do differently?:

Nothing. I did what I was supposed to do, kept it comfortable on the bike all the time.
Transition 2
  • 01m 16s
Run
  • 1h 40m 20s
  • 13.1 miles
  • 07m 40s  min/mile
Comments:

Good run for me. Was supposed to start out a bit more conservative but again, just kept it comfortable. It was great seeing people I know out on the course and we had such an awesome cheer group. Finished loop 1 in 50 mins and just held that. I should have tried to negative split but had a potty stop that held me up for a minute or so.
What would you do differently?:

Nothing. This was a good pace. My fastest 1/2 marathon ever.
Post race
Warm down:

Realxed in the shade. We had a good spot near the finish. Cheered on my team mates and ate yummy food! Stayed for the results/awards. Got a nice bottle of wine and some other freebies.

What limited your ability to perform faster:

Holding back a bit today because this was not my A race.

Event comments:

Red rock put on another good race. Love the t-shirt and visor!
