Swim
Comments: I swam what I thought. I am a slow swimmer but I did not have to deal much with getting hit or swallowing too much water. Half way through the swim all I could think about was urinating but I was not going in my suit. I started at the back but not far enough cause I ran up on the initial starting pack and got into their mix What would you do differently?: start closer to the bouys. swim faster! Probably wait about 20 seconds before swimming. Transition 1
Comments: My wetsuit has zippers at the ankles, next time i will get those unzipped prior to striping. The carpet was wet so as they were pulling I was sliding with it was not as smooth as my last race, then I walked a little then ran to changing area. Put socks on, bike shorts over my tri-shorts, helmet, race belt, helmet and sunglasses. I liked that the volunteers got your bike for you What would you do differently?: I could be faster but that will come in time, I didn't want to forget anything. Bike
Comments: Right out of transition I dropped my bike before I got on. My nutrition bottles did not spill but my aerodrink bottle dumped water. Not a problem i refilled at first aid station. My first lap was good, my nutrition was the IMC cocktail with the last bottle with 1 can of Red Bull(got from BT site). I set my watch timer for every 15 minutes so to remind me to drink. Stopped to urinate on 2nd + 3rd lap. Every hour on the bike I took in 2 sodium capsules. I taped gels to my bike but they were too tight and hard to get off unless I ripped the gel and made a mess. What would you do differently?: Don't tape the gels as tight. Later in the laps squirt some water on myself for a cooling effect. Transition 2
Comments: I rode to dismount point where they took my bike then headed to get my bag then to tent. took off bike shorts + helmet and put on hat, vaseline on toes, socks and shoes on. Got Ice bag from volunteer, got some sunscreen and headed out! What would you do differently?: I had my own blister rub in my shoe which I couldn't find at the time b/c my sock was stuffed in it so i used vaseline no big deal. Run
Comments: My first 2.5 laps was decent split between run and walk, but from that point to finish my left leg was giving out. No cramps just really tight. Cold water sponges were available at the stations. I squeezed the water over my thighs and hamstrings which refreshed them for awhile. Aid station were well stocked. It was very hard to remember to take in the sodium capsules that I was using on the bike. When you get to aid stations you want what they have and you forget what you have in your back pockets What would you do differently?: I did what I could based on my leg. Refresh my legs with the water sooner in the run Post race
Warm down: Walked to the food tent! Got a massage but I think I hurt more after it. What limited your ability to perform faster: My left leg on the run got really tight. I wasn't used to the heat, the area I live in was still very cool and windy. Event comments: For a first time Ironman I think the course was good. Not overly hilly good straight rides and nice views (when you had time to pay attention) Last updated: 2005-09-20 12:00 AM

Wake-up 4 am. Had 1 bananna. Showered got ready. left for race about 4:50am. At 4:50 am started drinking 24 oz bottle mixture of 1 red bull, 2 scoops carbo pro, 2 scoops cytomax (did not want to burp bagels as in other races). Wanted to eat 1 yougurt cup but did not have time. Got to the site got turned in my other bags, got tires pumped, oiled my chain, taped some gels on the bike. Helped GALLUP (PETE)pump his tires and oil his chain. Got body marked, used the bathroom. Then Pete and I jumped in the water for the race. That was the last we saw of each other until the next morning
virtually none to busy!
