Pre-race routine:

Only my second ever triathlon (the other was a sprint tri), so really can't say I had a routine. Got up at 4:30, went to Walt Disney parking to catch the bus to the start. Lots of people in line for the bus but it moved reasonably quickly. Got to the transition with just enough time to make everything was in order with my bike and gear
Event warmup:

Pacing around nervously.
Swim
  • 50m 52s
  • 1920 meters
  • 02m 39s / 100 meters
Comments:

Being my first open water swim, I had trouble swimming straight and sighting the buoys. I got better at it as the race progressed. One guy from the wave behind me passed me by grabbing my leg and pulling himself by me. Definitely an experienced move pulled on a newbie like me. I will be ready for it the next time and kick appropriately.
What would you do differently?:

Swim straighter and sight the buoys better. I probably swam at least 1.3 miles instead of the 1.2
Transition 1
  • 07m 29s
Comments:

No wetsuit, so no strippers needed. Probably about 200-300 yards from water exit to T1. Same area for T1, T2 and the finish, which was nice. I didn't think that I was wasting time, but apparently I was a lollygagger.
What would you do differently?:

Practice transitions
Bike
  • 3h 08m 34s
  • 56 miles
  • 17.82 mile/hr
What would you do differently?:

Longer traning rides. By the end I was very ready to be off of the bike.
Transition 2
  • 05m 53s
Comments:

Little faster than T1. Changed shoes and shirt and that was it.
What would you do differently?:

Practice and plan ahead better
Run
  • 2h 37m 5s
  • 13.1 miles
  • 11m 59s  min/mile
Comments:

Slow jog on the course and walked the aid stations. It was hot and sunny and I got sunburned. Got chafed underneath my arms by my shirt. Didn't notice any sunscreen or lube at the aid stations.
What would you do differently?:

More / better sunscreen and lube.
Post race
Warm down:

Walked to and got back in the lake to cool off. Drinks and pizza provided by the race.

What limited your ability to perform faster:

Heat, humidity and my lower training volume. My goal was to finish and not wind up in the medical tent and I did that. My family saw one guy much fater than me fall out about 100 yards from the finish and could not get back up. I saw him being taken out on a strecher to the ambulance. I hope that he was ok.

Event comments:

The race was in typical hot, humid Florida weather for that time of year, but it changed over the next two days. The next day would have been perfect, temp lower, cloudy and no rain until at or near race end. Two days later would have been awful, too cold and very heavy wind and rain all day. Overall the race was set up very well and I would do it again.

Wind: Some
Course: Fairly flat one loop course, only a few hills. The largest hill is about mile 40 or so. 3 well stocked aid stations on the course. Wind was worse than I expected. Two or three turn-arounds on the course but mostly all right turns. Saw several people with flat tires. Perhaps they over inflated in the early morning and once it heated up too high pressure. Saw one that had crashed and had bloody face.

Course: 3 laps around a 4.33 mile loop, no hills. Aid stations about a mile apart although not exactly a mile. Aid stations well stocked, the ice water sponges were great. About half the course on a paved trail and about half on grass. Some freak out about the grass but it was no problem, not uneven, no potholes. However the grass part was through a swampy area and the humidity was noticeably higher in that area and no shade there.
