Swim
Comments: Was in second group; felt like I stayed roughly on track. Steady swim. Transition 1
Comments: Usual, a little trouble with suit over ankles Bike
Comments: Went out hard, passed 3 people in first 5 mins, which put me in the front of the race. Went hard and was the leader on the road until mile 20, when eventual winner passed me. Ran out of gas a bit ~ 18mile mark. What would you do differently?: Go out a little less hard, spin a bit more at end (see below) Transition 2
Run
Comments: Disaster! The run was out and back on the road because the usual wooded course was too wet. Leaving T2, I was down ~ 1m to the leader. I was worried about my ankle, but after the first 30s it felt fine. Went out pretty briskly, and started to close the gap. By ~2m, I was within 15s of the leader. My inner thighs (above the inner part of the knee) were beginning to feel crampy, so I held off attacking more. At the turnaround (3m), I was still ~15s back, and felt ok. A few minutes after the turnaround, the pain/cramp got a lot worse. I fought thru it without slowing down for a while...then tried to sprint a bit to close the gap. By about 4.5miles, the pain was tremendous and I began to shuffle. No one even close behind, so I just slowly brought it in. Close. Post race
Event comments: Love this race; small and informal. Within 1m of the overall win...very frustrating. Last updated: 2009-09-13 12:00 AM
