Swim
Comments: The swim to the first bouy was a challenge due to the waves (from the ocean and the jet skis). I had good navigation, but it was more so of other swimmers. I ended up passing people that were two waves ahead of me. I rounded the two bouys and made my way back to the swim finish. Since the first part was a little crowded, I made a point to try to avoid the crowds. It ended up working out well and I swam almost the entire home stretch without many people around me. As I ran up the finish ramp, I looked at my watch and was really pleased with my time. What would you do differently?: Nothing! I made it a point to start in the front of the wave and it worked out. Pace and breathing was great too. Transition 1
Comments: No issues with T1. The run from the water was about 200-300 meters. Had to rinse off feet with extra water bottle due to sand. What would you do differently?: Nothing. Bike
Comments: I had a minor issue clipping my left foot in which may have cost me a few seconds getting up to speed. Once I was clipped in, I looked at my computer and saw it wasn't working properly. I must have bumped it putting it in/out of the car. Luckily since it was an out and back, I knew when I was at the half way point. I ate a chewy granola bar and continued to drink Gatorate. Finished the bike strong and passed a bunch of people in the last few hundred yards. What would you do differently?: Make sure my computer is working properly. Transition 2
Comments: Saw Karen and Mike at the finish of the bike. Had no issues with T2. Happy with the time. What would you do differently?: Nothing. Run
Comments: My first mile was at 10:47. I had a small stitch in my side that I tried to get rid of. I made an effort to finish the remainder of the run strong since it is my weakest part of the race. I ran mile 2 at about 10 minutes. I looked at my watch and saw I was going to beat my expected finish time of 1:33 so I was thrilled. I saw Karen and Mike a few times on the run which was great! What would you do differently?: Of course, like all of the other races, train more on the run. That's my focus for the winter! Post race
Warm down: I met up with Karen and Mike, grabbed some animal crackers, a banana and some water. We cheered on more finishers and then packed up and headed out. What limited your ability to perform faster: I was really happy with the results of my race. I will continue to train on the run, but am happy with the progress I have made so far. Event comments: This was the first all women race I've done and it was a lot of fun! The pre-race expo was great with a lot of free give aways. There were plenty of nice volunteers and the course was fun. I would definately do this race again next year. Last updated: 2005-09-21 12:00 AM

Woke up at 4:30am and ate a banana. Loaded the car and Karen, Mike and I were on our way by 5am. Ate a PB&J sandwitch and drank some coffee on the way. Arrived at the race site and walked to the transition area.
Went through "check in" where participant's names were checked off the list, found bike rack and set up transition area.
Ate a GU and drank some Gatorate while talking to Karen and Mike. They started calling all of the athletes to the swim start.
Since I was in wave 8 out of 11, I watched the elites finish the swim while I waited. I walked to the gated area where people were waiting and made my way up towards the front so I could be one of the first in my wave.
