Run
Comments: Ran w/ my Saturday morning run group. 2 of them are faster than me and are training for a marathon in a couple of weeks, so they said they would pace me, trying to go sub 1:50. Decided on 6/.45 run/walk breaks. Wasn't sure what the day would bring, as my long runs have been limited and my IT band flared up last week. By mile 4, I could feel my endurance/lungs starting to work. Kept pushing though. At mile 8, I was ready to throw in the towel and just finish the race, running 9:00/mile pace. My buddy would have nothing to do with that, and told me to get my ass moving, he wasn't going to let me quit. I continued to push myself harder than I ever have before. At mile 10, one of our group couldn't keep the pace, so she dropped back a bit. Another buddy stayed w/ me to get me to the finish. His encouragement and my determination were the only things that kept me going. At mile 12, I knew I could break 1:50 if I pushed it, but I was dying out there! At 12.25, I couldn't keep it going and had to stop to walk. Walked for about a minute and that ultimately kept me from breaking 1:50. Overall, I was extremely happy w/ my run. I PR'd by 6 minutes and didn't give up (at least until the 12.5 mile marker!). What would you do differently?: More speed work (I just started speed work recently). More longer runs, whatever my IT band will give me. Post race
Warm down: Water/bagel/pizza and stretching. What limited your ability to perform faster: Lack of speedwork and long runs. Event comments: Second time running CCRR and enjoyed it both times. Will definitely be back. Last updated: 2009-09-14 12:00 AM
